Forty Seven hundred Pounds....
The John JCW Countryman weighs 4696 lbs.
This 2020 4runner limited (4wd) weighs 4525
let that sink in.

WTF? How does that even happen?

Checked it on their website. Its legit.

Seriously, how does it weigh that much?
The T4R is 191" long x 76" wide x 72" tall
The “Mini” is 170" long x 72" wide x 61" tall.
The T4R is nearly two feet longer and weighs less. Unbelievable.

That’s insane.
That's the same weight as the Mustang Mach E.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 11:52 |

It also has a frame and body, a transfer case, a solid rear axle and a 4.0 V6.

That’s Gross Weight . Curb is only 3629.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 11:54 |
|
Is that gross weight, not curb weight?
Apparently not:
![]() 11/18/2019 at 11:54 |

There is no way. The 2019 Countryman Cooper S All4 has a cu rb weight barely over 3500 lbs. At least on the EU market.
And I thought 3500 lbs was somewhat steep for a car like that already .

This weighs ~3.4 Austin Minis!

You’re right about one thing. It is a gross weight.

Holy cow...
I knew BMW SUV platforms were heavy at 5k or more but a CUV?
Also the same platform, the X2 or X1, max weight is 3.7k. So where is the other half ton come from?

Can’t be right, unless the entire undercarriage contains a thick lead plate or something.
My E wagon, a larger car filled with just as much or more frills, weighs ~4300.

Thats what they are reporting. my guess is iron block and turbo gubbins.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 11:58 |

Also, I don’t need to let that sink in. The Countryman is heavy enough it will sink in in its own ..

What. The. Fuck.
Thank you for the sobering moment of clarity this morning.

Will normal tires work for this thing, or are they going to need XL (reinforced) tires for this size?

How on earth does that little thing weight more than a Hellcat??? Just nuts.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:03 |

Those numbers make no sense to me. I have seen a F chassis Cooper JCW on a scale at 3200 with driver and full tank of gas, that page claims empty curb at almost 3800. They would have to have filled the doors with lead for every trim to have gained this much weight since MY2019.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:05 |

I’ve seen a stock 2019 F56 Cooper JCW on a scale with driver and full tank of gas at 3200lbs. They must have filled the doors with lead to gain 600+ lbs in a single model year. Those numbers make no sense.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:07 |

Even the Clubman FWD is 4,300 lbs +
And a Cooper 2-door is 3,600 lbs.
My E46 325xi wagon weighed 3,600 lbs.
wut

Holy cow the hardtop 4door I had in Mallorca was 3800lbs! That’s 400 more than my old Malibu!

I’d say it needs to go on a diet.

Must be all the lead sheeting they added for sound-deadening.
My spouse fell in love with the first-gen Countryman and I’ve NEVER been in such a noisy, rattly car of such girth.
I guess Mini really stepped it up at the All You Can Eat Smorgasbord. Still hard to believe it weighs 4600.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:10 |
|
2019 Countryman’s are rated at 3600 curb, 4300 gross. There’s no way the 2020 curbs higher than the 2019 gross, they are the same car.

“In awe at the size of this lad. Absolute unit,”
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:13 |

I hope you’re right. The performance numbers don’t seem to make any sense if it’s really that heavy.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:13 |

It’s gotta be a goof on Mini’s website. The listed weight for X2 M35i and 2019 Countryman JCW are well under 4000 lbs.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:14 |
|
This makes much more sense. Thanks.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:15 |

Yeah, it’s gotta be a mistake on the website...
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:16 |

US spec 2019s are 3600. This has to be a confusion between curb and gross by whoever maintains the spec page, every single Mini model apparently gained 800-1200 lbs for 2020 and none of them got more than minor updates since 2019.
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:16 |
|
I think the writer quoted the gross laden weight. The empty weight is something nearer 1,500 kg.
Edit: it’s about 1,600 kg. Still heavy for a car this size but 4wd doesn’t come free.

The mini I had was 3800lbs

They put the gross numbers into the curb field. Every model has apparently gained 800-1100lbs since MY2019.

![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:50 |

a 4runner TRD Pro has a curb weight of 4750lbs. JCW Countryman has a curb weight of 3,629. something is not right...
![]() 11/18/2019 at 12:53 |

Yeah, 3,600lb seems like, not possible for a base model Cooper 2-door.

Another BMW product that is inexplicably DENSE.
Somehow BMW builds cars that are about the same size as other cars, but several hundred pounds heavier than their competitors.
It is weird. Similar amenities, safety systems, capacities and dimensions... but just HEAVY.

While I believe there is some typo involved, “nicer” cars tend to weigh more despite physical dimensions. Laminated glass, sound deadening, better crash protection, more wiring, etc. Our 15 year old XC90 is right at 5000 on a scale.
