We went back today to more carefully check out the surrounding area. While it still isn’t as nice as where we are now, we are confident that if everything works out, this will be somewhere good for us. It’s only 20 minutes from where we live now.

Even if we stay there for 5 years, we can be out and into something better in our early 30's.

There isn’t anything we can afford to move into here and we can’t stay where we are (outgrown it and trouble on the tracks in terms of work needed in the complex ).

The place we offered on has parking for 4 vehicles including a side by side garage vs. our carport/driveway split for 2. A backyard where we have nothing and inside is HUGE compared to what we have now and much nicer.

I’m further from work, but typically work from home. Further from family, as we currently live within walking distance of both our parents, that was always going to happen.

Further from local green space , but closer to mountains and large parks. Driving roads are not bad in the area either.

I honestly am most excited about the garage space. Having any enclosed car storage has been a dream of mine forever.’

The move is probably a good one overall. I can hear the squirrels inside the wall next to me here as I write this.

Looks like a nice place! Hope it works out for you.

My only question - why do people put huge tile in small kitchens?

Edit: I guess it’s not that small on second look, but that’s still some big tile for the space.

That looks great. Good luck with your bid.

I have to say this though. When my wife and I bought our first house, we thought sure we’d only be in it maybe six years. That was 18 years ago, and we’re still here.

It will be an incredibly huge upgrade for us. I really hope our bid (and subsequent sale of our place) goes well

That looks really nice and,  having street parked for 10 years myself,  I know the garage will be a huge upgrade. Good luck!

I’m incredibly jealous. I’m in my early 30s and only have a 1-bed condo and want to make the move to small house mainly because I want a garage.

The open, yet warm feel of that office area, t he nice greenery in the backyard, and the wide garage are great things to have. I could have my winter car and a project car in the same place!

Fingers crossed for you, hope it works out for yall!

Very nice! That garage is epic! I hope I can afford a place of my own in a few years...

Your wallet double in weight seeing how much property goes for where I live.

It’s not that much cheaper in BC!

I’d do it for the garage space. More distance from the parental units isn’t a bad thing, either. It’ll be interesting to see where the market is in another decade.

So, Emma Chisit?

Apparently helps with resale.. Why? IDK. But that is what a realtor friend of mine said when we remodeled our kitchen and master bath.

While I personally would never live in a duplex/condo type deal, that legitimately looks like a really nice place. The 4 car parking is insane (as in, way better than I’d see around my area), the layout looks good, backyards are awesome, proximity to mountains is something i’d have paid an extra 50k for, and if it’s a good upgrade for you/your family, go for it my dude.

In BC, you typically have no choice. This place is listed at $650K, so I can’t afford a home which typically would start at $1M

Yeah, its a decent upgrade!

But 650K C anadian is like 37 real dollars, right? ;)

Pretty much. But it’s what I get paid in!!

Man, I come down to the USA a lot and have to be careful.  When a $5USD latte ends up costing me $8.00...it starts not to be worth it.

Yeah, i hear ya. It’s a weird adjustment going somewhere where the exchange rate is even mildly different, much less vastly different. I’ve spent some time in the middle east, and Kuwait has an extremely strong currency, so you figure ‘oh it’s only 3 dinar’ then remember wait that’s like 10 bucks.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, you pull 100 Saudi Riyals from the ATM and it’s like 20 bucks. Get used to that too long, and you go to an ATM and accidentally pull 400 bucks when you get home, thinking ‘oh it’s only 100'. Or, you get back to Kuwait and pull 100 dinar. $350 later...

“I like this kitchen because it looks way smaller than it is since the tile is so big”

I don’t get it, but there are a lot of things people like that I don’t understand so I’m not surprised.
