Rudy’s is always good! We’ve been sampling the various BBQ joints around the 290 corridor now that the office has moved away from downtown. Tasty.

I like all these things.
Also, happy birthday.

Rudy’s is THE BEST semi-chain BBQ place, and honestly one of the best BBQ places, period. My boss who was raised in Austin before it was cool will vouch for it. I love the sauce and the tater salad.
Anyway, Happy Birthday!

There are few high faultin BBQ places here (I’m looking at you Salt Lick and Terry Black’s) but I greatly prefer Rudy’s. Great flavor, consistent, great atmosphere. And they’ve got great c ole slaw.

Rudy’s beats the heck out of Salt Lick, that’s for sure. It’s our favorite BBQ place.

You get them from time to time, and I suppose you can ask for them. But yeah, burnt ends are awesome.

Nom, nom! Looks amazing. We did our local taco truck and had great margaritas. We’ve had a brisket in the crockpot all day ready for tomorrow.

Rudy’s instead of Carl’s on 290? So sad, but happy B-day from a stranger anyway. ;)

Rudy’s makes me happy. I’ve got a jar of that sauce in my fridge.

And, the sause is gluten free! I could have put a major hurt on that whole tray of meat, but I had to share it with the rest of my family. I think Rudy’s cole slaw is also quite good. However, you’re looking at almost $100 in food there. But I ordered enough to have some leftover. I was going to make a brisket omelet, but my son ate all the leftover brisket.

Yeah, their coleslaw is really good (and I really like good coleslaw - such a let-down when it sucks). My brother actually sent us a frozen
Rudy’s brisket for Christmas last year. We kept it frozen and ended up taking it along on our spring break trip to share with several other families. Ther
e was much joy that night.

Too many restaurants try to make some grand culinary statement with cole slaw, when all it really should be is a cool, slightly sweet counter to the salty meat and potatoes. I shouldn’t have to admire the complexities of the blended flavors and sriracha and fennel. Just chop the shit up (the finer the better) and put some mayo and sugar in it.

I can really
appreciate a well-done “normal” coleslaw (KFC’s is nostalgic to me)
, but I do like the ones that are a little more complex, too. In the end, flavor rules.
