Wrong-way bicyclist and jaywalking pedestrian.
Although, in retrospect, I would say this is more like a 15-yard personal foul being erased by a 5-yard encroachment.

Ha! Wow
I can’t believe that exchange was as civil as it was.

In what looks like NYC, no less.

As a cyclist, I’m with the pedestrian here. No reason to look both ways when people aren’t allowed to come from the other way.
I guess you could make a similar argument about the cyclist, but it’s really not hard to go to the next block over on a bike.

Totally agreed. I think that the cyclist was more in the wrong than the pedestrian. He knows it, too, which is why he keeps monologuing about the jaywalker as he rides away.

Manhattan is the only place in NYC that cyclist wouldn’t have gotten a beatdown.

NYC is a pretty civil place these days (or at least Manhattan is).

As somebody else commented, “Only in Manhattan.”

I think 50% embarrassment by the jaywalking pedestrian for ending up on his ass , and 50% guilt by the distracted wrong-way bicyclist = 100% fuggetaboutit

As a biker myself; the pedestrian is way way way in the right here. The biker is not only going the wrong way, but also holding shit in his hand right hand and barely using his left so he can’t steer when the guy walks into the road. In downtown Minneapolis, people cross not at cross walks all the time; especially once winter hits; i don’t condone it but it’s the norm. Biking the wrong way without having your hands on your handlebars near your brakes is complete idiocy that very few people would do :

Hmm, didn’t even notice that, but it certainly explains why his reaction was so crappy. Hard to brake and/or swerve from that position.

can we add a 10 yard holding penalty to the cyclist for what ever he has in his hand. I think that still nets 20 yards (punches) in the pedestrians favor.

“you’re right” - now that’s funny!
Definitely agree that the cyclist was more in the wrong.

Yeah; I think if he had both hands on the hoods he probably could have made it without crashing. I’m thinking he is a messenger getting something out as he gets close to arriving.

I ca n’t, in good conscience, defend the jaywalker. But given authority, I would definitely come down h arder against the cyclist for being a hazard towards onco ming. right-of-way-bearing, traffic. The jaywalker was at least decent enough to wait for a clear opening.
