Someone was bored and had a spare car in the yard...

A Willys truck with meth infused nostalgia.

Let’s have a moment of silence for the Rambler Ambassador that gave it’s life for this unholy creation.

A willys and a Rambler

That seems to be what was intended for it.

They did cut off the part of the Rambler that doesn’t really go with the rest of it.

It’s certainly an odd looking wagon, but I like it. It’s the result of one an counting, and valuing space over style. The wanted the wagon to share as many parts and tooling with the sedan as possible, but didn’t want to compromise on space, and in this case third row head room.
In the modern works the roof line would just follow the slope from the sedan, and as a tekst a lot of cargo space would be lost and rear visibility would suffer, but it would look better. Altho the problem could have been avoided entirely if the designer of the sedan had done so with the wagon in mind.

Or, today, they’d use solid plastic roof rails to give the illusion of an unbroken roofline when viewed from the side, then a shiny plastic cheater panel on the c-pillar to make it all look like one continuous sheet of glass.

I don’t know. To me it looks mostly like the result of not wanting to have to make different doors for the wagon, resulting in an extremely awkward look. Not the first or last time that’s happened of course.

Yeah that’s what I was sayin. But they could have continued the roof line. It just would have ended in a really low roof in the back

I mean the trick would be to just give it different doors and a different roof than the sedan.

I just assume the donor was in a front end collision.
