The station wagon was a staple of the american roadway for decades before the gas crisis and the small efficient minivan came to fruition. Almost every family had one. They served as a way to transport not just the family but materials without the need for another vehicle in the driveway. They shuttled so many of us on road trips to memories that will last forever. However the factors above combined to spell it’s doom, and today instead of wagons we see SUV’s from sea to shining sea. The Mach - E is going to spell the same type of doom for those SUVs.

The Mach-E is the first major release from Ford on a full EV platform and they couldn’t be doing it on any stronger shoulders than that of the mighty Mustang. We know so far that it’s going to have roughly a 300 mile range and very likely all-wheel drive as an option. While still trying to maintain sleek Mustang like lines. That’s a huge deal because it will be low slung much like the wagons of old. Additionally, as future generations come to fruition they could very likely shrink in height as they try to emulate the Mustangs styling further. You can see where I’m going with this.

Wagon sales were up nearly 30% in 2018 vs 2017 and it’s likely the numbers will continue to grow when this year is finished as well. Many of us enthusiasts have experienced how pleasurable a good, well sorted wagon can handle not to mention accelerate our pulses. For the non enthusiast though, wagons are more efficient on average and easier to drive than SUVs and CUVs. They offer much the same practicality and are comparable in terms of price. There’s good reason to think that the Mach-E will be the tipping point when wagons may become fashionable once again. I’ll take mine in brown thanks very much. If only they could come up with a way I could have a manual transmission like that Mustang Lithium.

In my opinion this is spoiling the hell out of the Pony Logo’s brand.

Go look at a Mustang, it’s a Mustang. It’s barely even referred to as a Ford Mustang. Also look at the exterior and interior. Unless you see one on a lit up screen or under the hood there aren’t even Ford logos on it. Just the Pony Logo.

It’s like the Corvette. Don’t put the crossed flags on anything other than a Corvette or you hurt the Corvette brand.

They could’ve used plenty of iconic Ford names/logos without tarnishing the brand image of the Mustang.

I cannot disagree with this. I will say that as a guy who’s not a Mustang fanatic I personally don’t care if it helps usher in wagons as a normal part of the roadway though. I cannot stand SUVs - they’re basically rolling appliances - people care about them and their own driving habits about the same as they do their fridge. Hopefully wagons will spur some onto enjoying their drive more. Clearly part of the Mach Es goal is to combine utility with fun.

I just got an SUV a few weeks ago. I wanted all of it’s capabilities so I can tow the jet skis like they don’t exist, tow a full size camper and potentially tow my rallyX car in the future too (8,700 pound towing capacity). I also have 2 kids with their car seats hooked up in the back. It’s been awesome. I went from a Milan up to a GMC Yukon.

I don’t see any reason to be anti-SUV. It’s fine to be anti-bad driver though.

Maybe I should rescind that. I am not anti SUV, I’m anti SUV for the sake of SUV. If they’re not being used to their full potential there’s very little that couldn’t be done with a wagon aside from towing and wagons are better at the things that actually matter on the road, handing, braking, accelerating, etc

Mach-e is to cover a bunch of marketers that thought forgetting about the old Ranger, stopped u pdating it, giving the amarket to toyota, and killing the hatchback focus all at the same time was a great decision. They’re making the same great decisions again and need something to slap their backs and self p raise about . A nice fat useless car. Fat utility carrage. Whater. Its a fuc. .
