I figure a lot of you guys probably use mechanical keyboards since we tend to like mechanical things. Anyways, anyone have any recommendations for a decent mechanical keyboard for work that won’t hurt my wrists?

I have a boring logitech keyboard now and my wrists always get sore so I wanted to splurge a little and get a nice mechanical board since I use it all day long. I don’t need anything super fancy, just your standard keyboard layout with maybe a number pad on the right side. So far I’ve been looking at these online -

How much do you type? I’ve tried a few but always go back to Microsoft ergo keyboards. Yeah mechanical are awesome but I type a lot and just can't do it on a standard keyboard anymore.

I love my corsair k65 with red switches. The biggest thing though it comfort is an issue is to get a wrist rest

Heard good things about the das.

I also use browns. Browns are like blues but quieter!

I mostly game on the keyboard, so reds would be  “preferred”, but I find them vague and mushy.

For your wrists; have you tried one of those gel rests that go in front of the keyboard?

The brown is what I was leaning towards

Sometimes they can put more pressure on the wrists and dont help at all but it might be worth checking out, or maybe adjusting your keyboard angle?

I have two mechanical keyboards I’ve bought off amazon that I really like; an 84 key Drevo Gramr with blue switches and a wireless 60% dierya with brown switches . I really like typing on the blue switches but the brown switches are quieter and require less actuation force, so I think that would be best for an office/wrist pain .

Like E30s , get an M.
Unfortunately, like the similarly aged car, they’re now an expensive classic.

Unless you need USB, though I think maybe the company that bought the tooling from IBM might do a USB version.

Get Brown switches... Comfortable, not too loud and pleasant to type on. Blues are good too but noisier. Avoid reds, honestly they're really uncomfortable and are more for serious gaming

My favorite of the Cherry switches is the Blue, which is loud and moderately stiff for great tactile feedback. For my computer at home, I bought the cheapest available keyboard with Cherry Blue keys, a Rosewill model, and I am very happy with its performance. It’s nice and heavy so it doesn’t move around on the desk, it’s clicky as all get out, and it gives perfect feedback when typing so I find it’s the most comfortable keyboard I’ve got for when I’ve got to do a lot of typing.

However, the one I got does not have back-lit keys. I wouldn’t need back-lit keys at work with fluorescent lights overhead but I would like to have them for my house. Here’s a review from earlier this year that shows a back-lit Rosewill keyboard with Cherry Blues for only $77.

I had wrist/elbow problems from using a mouse and keybo ard all day, and I got the best relief from one of these IMAK ErgoBeads bean-bag wrist cushions . You can order them online or get them from most office supply stores.

Those things seem to be addictive. I never used one long enough to get the hang of it, but there are several people in my office who did, and now they will accept no substitutes. For a while you couldn’t get a new one, and when their old ones wore out or they spilled coffee on them they were talking about spending big bucks (like $200!) for a used one.

Yeah, that’s how I am now. After some cramping started I made an effort to use one about 10 years ago and have a hell of a time using a standard keyboard for much typing now.

Lenovo laptop keyboards are just about the only exception, but still can’t spend that much time on them.
