I came back to say goodbye because I thought Kinja was shutting down, but then it turns out it got a bit of a reprieve. So, I guess I’ll elaborate on my new project.
A few months ago my brother’s roommate told me that his cousin was selling off her late father’s cars as part of an estate sale, and that there were a pair of derelict Fieros that could be had for free. She offered them to him, but he has nowhere to store them, so he offered them to me. By the time we got to look at them, one was gone. I don’t know much about it other than it was a manual swap donor for the one that was still there. All that’s left of it is its spoiler.
The remaining Fiero was a 1988 GT, which, due to improvements in the suspension for the year, is among the most desirable for the model. As I alluded to, it’s an automatic, but as part of the extensive overhaul that it needs I’ll be swapping a manual into it.
In late August the car finally moved from the place where it sat for the past 15 years, being loaded onto a flatbed and taken to its new home.
Even though it’s in fairly decent shape for having sat as long as it has, it needs a lot of help, inside and out.
While I’ve been gathering parts for it, the main objective has been cleaning, cleaning, cleaning for now.
The original 2.8 looks to be pretty much done, so I’ll be swapping an a 3800SC. I plan on buying a donor car next year.
Lastly, one of my favorite bits, the 2002 inspection sticker.

Bless your oil pumping heart for saving that weird little car. Hope I get to see more of the project as things move along.

Project swamp thing.
God those leaves really set me off. As if fieros weren’t prone enough to fire already.

Yeah, for whatever reason the passenger side deck lid vent was off so leaves got all over the bay. I’ve cleaned them out.

If you ever need encouragement check out this guy’s Fiero Restoration series. He’s come a long way on his, and his videos are top quality with a good bit of humor and honesty thrown in. If I remember right one episode has an in-depth how-to on replaoring the headlight pop up mechanism if you need it.

Was pleasantly surprised by the speedo. I was expecting the old 85 MPH Nader Special.

From what I’ve read, that stopped being mandatory before the Fiero came out.

the 80's GM door handle is giving me flashbacks to memories I thought the ave rsion therapy had erased, but other than that, good luck! with a 3800 you should be able to drift that thing up every on and off ramp

My grandma's 87 Century still had one, so 87 may have been the last year.

3800sc on an f40 auto tranny will give you instant mid 12sec quarter mile times. Good luck with it!

Good luck with this car, I’ve always liked them and thought they were under rated fun cars
