Some Ferrari Action As We Go Down In Flames

I don’t post so much on the Oppo as I used to, but as it all burns, here’s some Ferrari action from the weekend.

I went to a Ferrari-only car show, Ferraris On The Circle, in Sarasota at St. Armands Circle this past Saturday. While it was a bit heavy on new Ferraris, there were still a decent amount of old goodness. There’s nothing wrong with new Ferraris, it’s just that they are far less interesting when there are eight or ten of the same model sitting right next to each other.

I shot this first batch using a 50mm lens from a 1951/52 Exa Version 1. For my birthday, which was also Saturday, m y wife got me the adapter so I could use the lens on my Nikon. I love shooting film with the Exa, but it’s a pain in the ass to use in most situations. Now I can use it’s wonderful lens anytime.

It’s a great lens. The bokeh just melts the background, thought shooting with it something like this car show doesn’t really exploit that. But you can see it in the background of the Testarossa badge picture.

Speaking of... I take that same picture of almost every Testarossa that I come across (though I forgot to go back and shoot the black one that was at the show). I switch lenses to my 1963 Nikon 50mm for the rest of the day. That lens is just magical. I took the same Testarossa shot with it of a different car (see below). Totally different but still very dreamy bokeh in the background.

But enough of the camera nerd stuff, back to car pictures. Though a trigger warning for some of you. I took some pictures of a Ferrari that might send some people in to a rage. It’s very low to the ground and the wheels are sticking out funny. It’s like its posture is all messed up, but I can’t quite put my finger on the word I’m looking for...

That’s all. Surely one of these cars has burst in to flames by now, just like this amazing community of passionate automotive folks. We’ll see how this all plays out.

Ha! Thanks! I saw that right after I posted, all he ll broke loose with the postings. You win some, you loose some. But i f we’re still here in a week, I should have some really sweet pictures of more than just a bunch of Ferraris. So keep an open, and thanks again for digging my pics.
