Thanks for cranking down my lug nuts, all 32 of them, with 13 80lbs of torque.

Seriously, I was gun-shy thinking my tire iron was going to bust when I had not only both hands on the top but pushing on the bottom with my foot.

Kinja'd!!!

As an update - both calipers are done. *much* easier to do when you do the process in the right order.

Started the bleeding process... Should I bleed all 4 calipers if I only opened the front two lines? Also it bubbled a lot, like for a while.. one end of the tubing was in brake fluid as I pressed the brake probably 20 times. But as I left it sitting it would occasionally bubble on its own. Peculiar.

I fucking HATE when they do that! An they’re the fucking DEALER!!!!!!!!!!! They should know the fuckin torque specs and why NOT to overtighten that shit

The ONLY places I know of that actually torque them RIGHT are Walmart and Discount Tire. Only problem is, no DT stores int he northeast, and Walmart wait times are over 4 hours! They stop taking people at like 1-2pm (the listed hours are until 7)

You might need an EZ-Lug torque multiplier

You just need a high-torque rattle gun of your own to combat the lazy mechanics

Part of me chalks it up as laziness, convenience and then not having to worry about customers retorquing them after 50 miles. But seriously though - next time I bring it somewhere I'm telling them not to torque it down with a gun, hand torque at least tight enough for me to drive it away and I'll do the rest. Hell I'll even sign a waiver so if the wheel falls off its my fault. Meanwhile who knows how stressed my studs are now after that barrage of torque.

Pandora’s box my friend. First I end up with a pancake compressor for small jobs. Rattle gun, air ratchet.. reasonable stuff. But what about a nail gun? I could rebuild my fence. Need a bigger air tank. Have a bigger air tank, hmmm, that's a lot of available air. Could get a paint sprayer. I could respray both vehicles. Gotta turn my workshop into a paint booth. Need a filter and insulation for the paint booth. You see how this is an expensive slippery slope.

Do you have a DT nearby? If so, get your tires there :o)

Walmart does the right torque all the time, and they have the 50-mile disclaimer on the invoice they give you when you pay and get your car back. Most people probably don’t go back for the re-torque. I don’t. And I’ve never had a problem.

The lazy convenience excuse doesn’t cut it, either, because they do make torque sticks for use with impact guns. (again, not directed at you, but rather the shops that do that shit)

Also, speed bleeders are awesome

I’m like that with my milwaukee grinder from work (use dewalt now), I needed a new cordless drill and have the batteries, so I buy a milwaukee hammer drill. Now I have a milwaukee line trimmer, sawz all, and hedge trimmer.

Personally I’m a fan of bleeding the brakes frequently on heavy trucks and SUVs, so I’d say do all four corners just cause.

The air popping out from gravity bleeding means there’s probably some air in the lines you didn’t open, too.

Electric impacts are pretty dope. And stop the rabbit hole

The best is when they’ve been over-tightened and then left to sit long enough to get a little rust and really freeze . Try oil, s tand on the wrench and bounce, get a long pipe for a cheater, all that happens is the whole car rocks a little. Eventually half of them come loose and half of the lugs break .

Speed bleeders are nice, but motive power bleeder is nicer :). Until the original hose splits and sprays brake fluid all over.

I just went with a cordless electric impact. Every major power tool brand makes at least one high-torque 1/2" impact wrench.

Belle Tires does them well too!

My local Walmart guys use a torque tube to a slightly lower spec and do the final 10ish lbft with a torque wrench, neat!

I helped a coworker change a tire on her carolla and the nuts were around 100 ft lbs. I had to stand on the lug wrench.

Lug nut torque on these is a rediculous 165 ftlbs.

I bought another cylinder cap from the parts store, drilled a hole in it to fit a quick connect air fitting. Sealed it with some rtv and use that with like 10 psi of air pressure to bleed mine. Just need to watch that you don’t run the master dry. Did that after I put in the hydroboost and my pedal is great. If you don’t know the history I would bleed all 4. You shouldn’t need to remove the rear wheels to do those. Or the front for that matter.

You could be pulling air in around the bleed screws.

Im glad these were only done a couple weeks ago. I'm actually tempted to go crack the back wheels since I did have a 4 wheel balance done so I know the backs are just as bad. Maybe I'll give my back a couple of days to recover and then crack and retorque those later.

Thats actually some good advice. As easy as they are to get to to bleed I'll bust out the creeper tomorrow and bleed them all .

Its scary hearing 165 is norm. Meanwhile I'm putting a good chunk of force on my torque wrench curious what the weld strength actually is so I dont get busted in the face.   The other calipers will get bled tomorrow starting at the rear

Lol, it only took2 years for the soft shitty not quite 10mm bleed screws to seize in my calipers

After getting a particularly rusty BMW to rebuild last year I said screw it and got serious about nut removal. Buy one of these and those lugs will come off instantly. This will loosen 1400 ft/lbs and tighten to 1000. Hasn’t been defeated by anything I’ve thrown at it, even axle nuts zip right off. Worth every penny.

On bleeding, it’s always worth doing all 4 and a flush when doing brake work. It’s easy to do and instantly improves braking.
