So far so good. It’s got great usable space along with most of the great things you’ve ever heard about other BMWs that share similar E8_/E9_ chassis with the n55: quick, good steering, good interior, ZF 6sp is decent.
The gas mileage is not great though. I took my daughter to a state park with a “rustic” cabin and after 4 hours round trip of mostly highway driving and 2 days of commuting; the cars sits at 24.5mpg .
And here it is parked outside the cabin:

The one benefit of the four banger is you get the 8sp auto which is great for fuel economy. I once maintained 36 mpg on a roadtrip in my wife’s X1. Otherwise, the N55 is the better engine.

I really wanted a Xdrive28i with the M-Sport package mostly to get the good mileage but I think in the long run I’ll be happier with the n55.

Well hopefully you’ve been digging into the ample power and enjoying the sound! 25 sounds about right for mixed driving.

“ZF 6sp is decent”
I’m pretty sure these use the ZF 8HP.

The 35i got the older 6 speed ZF; the 28i got the newer 8 speed.
It’s one of the reasons that I think the 28i compares pretty darn favorably to the 35i; also better mileage and lighter. But when a turbo straight 6 is an option it’s hard to say no to that.

Gotcha. Yeah, the 8HP is pretty damn impressive.
