But those dollars look like they belong in this century.
Unlike the depressing ones we use now.
A ndrew Jackson is also gone. And that's good.

2018 and not official. They look sweet though. Im in favor of the motto even if few people still do trust in God. Also astronauts on bills would be siiiiiick. Also we haven’t had any female presidents yet so not sure who you were thinking we should put on a bill.

Yeah, American currency is way overdue for a redesign.

That “ In God” bullshit has got to go, but honestly so does the $1 bill. The value is too low to justify the cost of a bill over a coin. Coins last many times longer, and the cost to produce is on par.
Otherwise, it would be good to get new designs, and reshuffle the people. Or honestly, ditch the people, put on monuments or parks or something.

There have been people who were not President on US bills before (Franklin on the 100 and Chase on the 500 for the sake of examples).

Not at all a fan of “In God We Trust”
You’ll note that both then $10 and the $100 have non-presidents on them, though obviously the bar is high. It’s not clear that it will happen anymore but the plan was for abolitionist and suffragette Harriet Tubman to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20:
And of course we’ve had Susan B. Anthony and Sacajawea on currency as well:

It would be a good step forward, especially on the prevention of up cycling counterfeit front. I like the idea of replacing Jackson with a 20 dedicated to the Apollo era too. (Although replacing Jackson with almost anyone would be an improvement)

Personally I’d rather not have any coins, bills are much easier to deal with. Though we probably should switch to polymer bills to enhance durability.
If we are having coins, then yeah we should probably get rid of everything south of the quarter and replace the $1 and $2 bills with coins (and expand use of the half-dollar, though it’s a bit bulky, so you might want to change it up as well).

At various points dollar coins have had an Apollo 11 design on the reverse:

Well, if you set your new lowest denomination as the quarter, you could shrink the quarter and make 50 cent, $1 & $2 coins all of which were no larger than the current quarter..

This true, though I guess I was thinking of in common circulation. When I come across dollar coins like that one I'm more inclined to pull them aside to collect than I am to spend them..

You could. I’d imagine coin operated devices would prefer if you left the quarter the same size, but maybe if you are changing everything else it doesn’t matter much.

I once repaid someone with $17 worth of Sacajawea dollars. I felt bad (though he graciously said they were still money). Stamp machine on campus and the light rail ticket machine both gave them out as change, which was a problem if you only had a $20 handy.

I think it’s really ironic that we have “In ( the Christian) God We Trust” on our money considering what that Christian god’s son had to say about wealth , an the fact he literally got sold out by his friend.
I’m all for keeping it on there because it shows just how full of shit we are sometimes.
Just to troll the people who don’t see the irony, when I become dictator I’m putting “Give to Caesar What is Caesar’s” on the money and charging churches shit ton of tax.

Coin op folks would hate such a change since every machine would have to be reprogrammed. The only way they might not mind is if you did something like where the new coins were equivalent to/same size as the old coins and maybe accepted the old for the increased value. Penny= 25 cents, nickel= 50 cents, dime= $1 and quarter=$2.. I feel like doing that (as opposed to completely new sizes), might lead to some unintended consequences I'm not thinking of..
facw

True, which is why I think you leave the quarter alone. I’d imagine at first stuff would just only accept quarters (or even still accept smaller denominations even if they aren’t still being issued), and then new equipment or upgrades would support other coins. I’m quite sure they’d love not having to spend money to process coins that are essentially worthless. Though probably they’d prefer just to have everything be electronic payments.

Yeah, your probably right.. especially since I think there are some machines now that don't accept lower than a quarter or a nickel. The other thing is those older machines if they reall didn't want to upgrade and liked sorting nearly worthless coins, there'd be more than a few still in circulation so there wouldn't be the short term pressure them to change..

I don’t think you need to mandate an immediate switch. Just say cash prices need to be rounded to the nearest $0.25 and have a gradual phase out of the actual currency. Maybe say you have to trade it in with 5 years or something.

“In God we trust” is perfectly fine. If you disagree, send me all of your paper money and I will gladly dispose of it so you don’t have to be offended. Trust me, I’m doing this as a public service and feel it’s my duty to protect you from that horrible G-word by stockpiling greenbacks, possibly for the purchase of future 2-wheeled endeavors.

You could even do a phase out where
the Treasury takes the coins from banks and slowly decrease the supply. Still legal tender and people can hang on to them as long as they want..

The NYC subway machines used to dispense them as well. I still have a dozen or so mint 2001 coins I got as change from a $20 in the World Trade Center on Sept 10, 2001.

Hell, Scientology ( and plenty of others) wouldn’t even EXIST if we taxed churches.

I once had to add fare to subway card and all I had was a $20. It was a machine inside the system that only put the deficit on your card so you could exit. I got like 18 dollar coins in change. (sigh)
No problem, right? I’ll just go to the regular fare machine once I get out and put $18 on my card.
I had to add fare to my card twice because the machine would only accept 10 at a time. WTF? You gave me 18 at once.
