SAD!

I thought this meant like an Audi Q3.
I was like “wait there’s an Audi Q3?.... and it comes in manual?”

I t was going to happen... a turn of the page. It is unfortunate that my individual wants/desires are not what 98% of the population wants - but hey, change happens.... Now get off my lawn.

This is sad. My manual car relieves my depression. Hopefully I can fix it this weekend.

I want to save the manuals. I really do. I’ve only ever driven them. But, it’s a losing battle and I am indifferent anymore.
Also, getting more into bikes, they’re all mostly manual so I guess there’s that .

You know, I'm okay with this.

There is, but we only get the automatic ones here

I like EVs, but I love manual transmissions

I did my part.
I’m actually really surprised it took this long for EVs to pass manuals.

My tract ors are all manuals... And though I miss rowing my own, the 7-speed dct in the Kona is very good, and so is the 10-speed in the F150.
Too damn many kids on my lawn too.

Times are changing, The best hope for manuals may be if EVs become the mainstream choice quickly , and leave the only weird models that still have ICE power favorites of the “ save the manuals” club. Wouldn’t totally shock me to see a few automakers have “EV or Manual” as the only options for drivetrain. Think about a next Gen civic where the SI and type R are ICE+manual, while the more mainstream versions are EVs. It’s not likely but kinda makes sense if you squint.
On a whole other note , with a good ‘push to regen’ system, an EV isn’t a dead or uninvolved driving experience at all (I’d say it can be more fun than manually shifting a DCT/auto ) . I find myself d riving my ELR more like my classic Alfas than any automatic I’ve owned, just managing speed , efficiency , momentum , etc with regeneration paddles rather than a clutch and gearshift. It’s not the same, for sure, but a good EV is fun to drive, and the lack of using brakes due to regen is very reminiscent of good engine braking. While I’ll always love manuals and have one or more around, don’t knock the EV future until you’ve tried it. Certainly I’d rather have an EV than a slushbox!

yep, totally agree - I enjoy flying along in my wife’s Crosstrek at 70 taching 1900 because of the CVT unit she has. But not much beats the feeling of a hot shoe 4-3 downshift done perfectly late braking into a corner at 20 over posted... I just have not found anything else that provides the visceral feedback. Maybe need study for a pilots license or something.

I was more referring to that mine was purchased in Q3.
Thanks, it’s a pain in the ass to keep clean but it’s such a nice color.

In other news, iPhone Xs outsold flip phones in Q3.
*I have no clue if that’s true. But I am surprised it took EV sales that long to pass manual sales.

VW have said they are going to be steering more cars towards manuals, since they’ve spent the last five-10 years leaning towards autos.

If there’s anything that could get me away from my manual transmission it would be an electric car (or preferably a hybrid like a Volt - I really do like the Volt ). No need to go for anything with an auto because I either want the fun of a manual or the crazy torque of a good electric.

I would like an electric car someday but it feels like an iffy prospect at best until I can own a home and install a level 2 charger. That’s really the big thing holding back broader adoption. There needs to be better infrastructure in terms of away from home chargers.
On the other hand, a plug in hybrid might be doable...if the Golf GTE were available here I’d seriously consider it for my next car, though that’s probably 4 or 5 years off.
