Guitarists have different styles and play different genres. Pretty hard to compare him to someone like Django Reinhardt. But since I was relying on the Rev. Gibbons to get me through the day I’ll use this post to share a bit.

Yeah.... NO.

And one of my very favorite tracks, of all time, bar none.

Besides Joe Satriani, there are Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, Nuno Bettencourt, Craig Jackson, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tomoyasu Hotei, Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, The Edge, Brian May, the late Randy Rhodes, and I am sure I’ll think of a few more off the top of my head in the next few minutes.

And that is without playing the Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn easy cards.

Don’t get me wrong, Zakk is a great guitarist.   But as BoxerFanatic pointed out, there is a looong list of folks that are as good or better.

I first heard a variation of this on an album he did with Mark Knopfler, Neck and Neck, I didn’t even know that Chet Atkins had recorded this on his own.

My father introduced me to him in the 80s when I was listening to poison. He pulled out his copy of Guitar Monsters with Chet and Les Paul to show me what real talent sounded like.

I saw It Might Get Loud with The Edge, jack white, and Jimmy page, and the one who impressed me least was The Edge. I was surprised by jack White's talent

My guitar teacher, Bruce Hock (RIP), shared a space with Joe Satriani’s drummer Jeff, and this was their band. Saw them a few times in Berkeley. The music fit the era.

Joe teaching Larry LaLonde of Primus...well, those of us that took lessons in that place had to hear. To inspire something technical  yet so esoteric rules.

There are so many styles of guitar playing that it’s hard to narrow anything down to one ‘favorite’. But go in any direction and there are players that have incredible speed and technique, or others that have amazing soul. Some have both.

Allan Holdsworth (RIP) was more or less out of this world

Scott Henderson can rock fusion jazz too, but even with a joke blues tune cuts loose

There’s Wayne Krantz, who is kind of in his own weird but cool world

There are probably too many good Scandinavian guitarists to mention, so here’s one:

Mildly warm take IMO. I love Zakk’s stuff from Pride & Glory to all of his BLS material. Very talented shredder and singer. Awesome social media presence. Delicious coffee. BUT, I would not put him in my Mount Rushmore of guitarists though.
