I’m working on a piece and I’m interested in your thoughts. I tend to think of stuff like a stripped out C5 Corvette but that might bend the idea of reliable and it’s certainly not comfortable.

What comes to your mind?

There is not enough suspension travel to go off road with that, all the suspension you get is the sidewalk in the tires, whoever built that was dumb in starting with a c5/using stock suspension

That’s a great point. I would personally prefer an autocross build.

Saw this for sale in New York. Supposedly runs pretty well. If I wasn't looking for a Comanche project I'd at least venture out to look at it.

More accurately, speed comes at the expense of every other measurable category . The faster you go, the more this applies.

I think this is right. I think you can definitely get cheap and reliable together (for instance, I hear that the Versa is pretty reliable and is cheap to buy and run )...

All depends on you’re definition of cheap

Yea, great point. Speed does cost you more than just money.

90s Mopar. They can be bought cheap, they take extremely well to mods with which they can pretty easily get into the high 12s-low 13s , and they’re decently reliable when taken care of.

Is it possible with a modern car, not really IMO, but older stuff can be a combo of all 3 pretty easily.

This. They ended up damaging the subframe and suspension when they jumped a little tabletop I think.

I followed the build of that Vette Kart, on the “ B is for Build” youtube channel, and to be fair it was put together for a Gambler 500 rally. It was just a stupid fun project built from a wrecked vette that was never intended to be used for any serious off- roading.

You did not eliminate boring! A v6 Toyoh onda somethingoro ther should fit the bill. But if you must hava something identifiable...a 350z? They just work. Oil n batteries. Fun I guess.

This is a solid point. Fast doesn’t always mean fun. Makes me think about how relative each of the three things is. Maybe I’ll make that a part of the article.
