I had been hemming and hawing at checking out a BMW X1 Xdrive35i near me because it’s got 100,000 miles on it and I’d really prefer to get something with 75,000(accepting that in my price range it would be a 28i). But my wife encouraged me to at least consider this car- as she pointed out we have happily had cars to 150k miles; most likely I’ll be more entertained by the big engine; and the price is reasonable. And I don’t disagree with her.
So tomorrow I’m going to test drive a 2013 X1 Xdrive35i that very likely will come home with me. It’s got a weird set of options as far as I can tell(Sport line package(nice seats) and sport auto transmission with paddles. How this person didn’t just order the M Sport package is strange to me- I would imagine sport line plus the sport transmission and paddles would have been at least 2/3 the cost of just getting the M Sport pack. But there we have it; I’ll have the plastic cladding. It looks well cared for and apparently has new tires(which I hope aren’t a crap brand/model ), dealer indicated they are willing to go $800 under current asking price to around $11,000.
Over time I’m going to tune the engine, transmission, and likely lower it to normal car height.

My sister and BIL bought an X1 earlier this year and so far they love it. Good luck!

As a purveyor of old and higher mileage BMWs I must warn you.
100K miles on a rust-belt region BMW approaching 10 years old with a turbo engine? Even if you are a capable DIY mechanic, plan on a first name basis relationship with your local indy mechanic with a budget of ~$15 0 0 annually for repairs.

Yeah; my last lead was actually a car from the southwest; which would have been nice to avoid a MN car.
I’m planning on doing the Water Pump and thermostat early on . But I’ll do that on my own so it’s $400. I will plan on setting aside some maintenance funds for whatever car I get.

Closer to $550 in parts, coolant etc. and a pretty involved job on the xdrive cars. I just completed this on my 110K mile E91 xdrive wagon.
I am an MN local now although all our cars came from the west coast originally.

I swear every 20 cars or so every BMW factory just has a monkey fill out the order sheet and sends it out the door. Some truly strange non-order cars to be found. Additionally, you can order pretty much any BMW with a small deposit and then walk away fully refunded (BMW NA policy) and leave the dealer holding the potato. Thinking back, I should have ordered an F30 wagon every year just to bolster the used supply. Oh well

Another thing to check immediately would be the oil filter housing gasket. Even on N55s it goes and can still leak down onto the serpentine belt, which will deteriorate in short order and be inhaled through the front crank seal. Pretty much every N51, 52, 53, 54, and 55 need it and it could give you a little haggle room? It’s a pretty easy job on at least F30s.

I saw no signs of leaking and my salesman seems like a bit of a gear head and he is convinced it’s been done.

I am originally from MN but lived in Oregon for 8 years and am now back. I miss living in an area where rust was just not a concern.

Well the real shocker here is that it has no nav /I drive. I’m actually fine with that but still surprising.

Yeah it usually goes very gradually. Starts sloooowly seeping at the bottom and gets worse and worse until it makes a mess on the belt. Anything that would require urgent action would be readily visible I think. Can be tricky to actually look underneath, though.

iDrive was really good since well before 2013, yet some people really hate it . Some people just can’t stand the dashboard screen bulge or just prefer the slick dashboard . Don’t think you’ll miss it but I find it nice to have.
