Some of you might remember that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that somehow still had charge. I decided to do what any logical person would do, find out how long it would last for. So I decided to use it to power my mouse. This was back in May, so is it still working?

Kinja'd!!!

You bet it’s working! While it’s lost some of its charge, it’s still plenty of power for  my mouse.

Kinja'd!!!

So I’m going to keep using it and we’ll see just how long it lasts for.

I feel like batteries that I have that are mayyybe two years old already seem to enjoy leaking out their guts.

This might be my all-time favorite  series on Oppo.

alkalines have a sloping discharge curve; when new they have an open-circuit voltage of ~1.6-1.7 volts, and when they’re pretty much used up they’re down to 1.1 volts. Thus why 1.2 volt nickel rechargeables almost always work in their place; they pretty much hold 1.3-1.4 volts nominal all the way down until they’re flat.

That’s why I was surprised to find this one. It was with three others and they were all leaking; this one was unscathed.

If you design your equipment properly. I work for a company which ‘smart’ devices start throwing a tantrum when the batteries get around 1.2V. Use fully charged rechargeable batteries and the ‘c hange batteries’ indicator will light up, and the device will not be as reliable as it is with Alkalines.

No, I don’t understand why they designed it this way either.

This is the kind of long term review you never get at Motor Trend or Road & Track. Well worth my subscription.

I have that exact same Logitech mouse. Love that thing. Almost 9 years old now and still running strong.

I'm honestly surprised that battery hasn't ruptured and ruined yours.

It’s my work mouse; I’ve got an Apple magic mouse from 2011 at home, I quite like that mouse . I’m not really worried, worst comes to worst, I’ll just buy a new one.
