There’s even a second one for sale! No pictures of the interior to see if it’s actually a manual sadly.

I’d be scared every time I drove a W8 with that many miles, just puts you ‘that’ much closer to your next repair project. Maybe sun 75k but 90k+....nope.

I don’t give a shit how often I’ll need it up on jack stands or at my shop, I want this noise. I have always wanted this noise.

Oh wow, I just read the listing for the first one.
140k miles. Shitty driver’s seat. Falling headliner. Needs brakes. AND he wants $5,000. Wow. KBB market value is MAYBE $3,000, and that’s without a MIL. Yeah, he has a check engine light on for a missfire he can’t figure out.
BUT IT’S RARE BRO!

A fantastic car. Just very expensive to maintain.

And that is precisely why that car is in my list to create my “Piech Collection” of VW branded vehicles.
I have 1 of 3 of my goal so far, V10 TDI Touareg.
W12 Phaeton and W8 Passat wagon with a manual are the other two... and yeah, I got very specific with having the manual wagon. Heh

It’s the worlds fanciest Passat with awd, a 6 speed manual, and a 300 hp W8. It may make a normal 1.8t look reliable, but it sounds nearly as good as a 787b.

I’m 99.99% sure it is not OEM. VW can’t be that cool.

You..... you have a V10 TDI???? Can I be your best friend and borrow your car all of the time?
Or can I just buy it off of you? I want one. I NEED one!

Mmaybe I’ll let you drive it. Live anywhere near the San Francisco Bay Area?
I’ve grown attached to it... you’d have to wave an awful large stack of cash in front of my face to get me to part with it.

Well, if you need work on your TDI, there is no bigger TDI nerd in the state than this guy.

Just for s hits n giggles, here’s the TDIs I’ve owned since 2004 when I got my first:
1998 Jetta mk3, which eventually had its engine rebuilt and transplanted into the next car:
1997 Jetta GLX with my rebuilt AHU swapped into it around 2010, then moved to California with it.
Then I had a 96 Passat sedan that needed an engine rebuild. Cylinder 3 and its piston were badly scored. Local machine shop bored it, I assembled it with the corresponding oversize pistons, also did the GLX suspension and brake upgrade and mk4 shift linkage.
Then I got a 2005 Passat wagon... drove it across country, towing a pop up camper. Towed my toolboxes to a dealer I worked at in SF with it too... eventually broke the auto trans in it in spectacular fashion.
I’ve had two 99.5 Golf 2 door GL TDIs (crank windows!).
I’ve had two other 05 Passat wagons.
I’ve had 2 2003 Jetta wagons
A 2006 Jetta, DSG.
A 1995 Passat GLX wagon that “Nice cars” built and fudges up royally. The guy that bought it from them got so frustrated with it he literally gave me the car, which then took me what felt like an eternity to fix all the shit wrong with it.
I now have a 2000 Beetle, no sunroof, 5 speed. Customer didn’t want to fix it, traded to me for labor for routine service on his Touareg V6 TDI. This is the current daily beater, the Touareg V10 being the pleasure/weekend/road trip/trail rig.
The original 05 Passat wagon is still in my possession too, just waiting for me to get around to manual swapping it. The rest were largely transients, might have had some for only months, some for a couple years before moving onto the next project someone abandoned. Beetle and Touareg are the operable ones, god help me.
Ggirlfriend has a 2000 Beetle as well that she’s had longer than we’ve known each other. I also got her a 2006 Jetta DSG (different from the previously mentioned one, which was sold 2 years ago) for her commute to Oakland. Didn’t want to deal with the manual in traffic, which I got an earful of her first couple weeks. Lol
What TDI do you have.

Haha do you even know what gasoline is? That is quite a collection.
I’ve only got a 2012 Golf TDI manual. Bought brand new and it’s got about 60k miles now. It currently acts as our trip car since I got my e-Golfs last year. I obviously chose the TDI “fix,” which lasted all of ten minutes before I installed the Stage 2 Malone tune. I had always planned on doing it after the warranty expired, but then VW extended the warranty on the HPFP. But after the reviews of the “fix” on Gen 1 I knew I would hate it, and I did. “Sl ight reduction of torque” my ass. The stage is absolutely amazing. It pulls like a freight train. When I have time (and more money) I want to buy another set of wheels and track it. I only track my Mercedes (00' C230 Kompressor) right now, but really want to take the Golf to Streets of Willow.

I’ve had only a couple gassers...
First vehicle I had was a 92 S10 Tahoe, 4.3 TBI V6.
Had an 89 GTI 16V for a couple years. Also briefly had a 92 Jetta Ecodiesel that a previous owner swapped a 16V into. Sadly, he dragged his feet on the title, otherwise I probably would have put my AHU TDI into it.
Once you’ve had any TDI with a tune, it becomes difficult to want to daily anything else. The big torque and good fuel economy even when hammering on it makes them great dailies if you do a lot of highway commuting.
I do kind of want a cheap EV for daily commute use, but the ones cheap enough for my budget all have small ranges and I cant charge at home. Plus given the recent power outage situation up here, makes me rethink having one. My shop hasn't had power since Saturday night thanks to PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff...

The gas car I want anymore is a Golf R. I want to get a MKVIII (when or if it comes over here) and that’s it. The rest will be EVs and my MKVI TDI.
But I got an e-Golf for a reason. While I wanted to save money on fuel (I was dailying my Mercedes), I still want a nice car. The e-Golf is amazing because it really is a Golf with just an electric powertrain. And there’s ample torque, of course. EVs and diesels have a lot in common. They have a shit load of torque, and they taper off at higher speeds. They’re also cheaper to run than gas cars.
The “public safety” fuck ups are why the only people buying EVs are people like myself: multiple car owners. I don’t need to rely on my e-Golf to get me anywhere. I have two other fully functioning cars. And I think it will be like for years to come until PG&E and SCE either pull their head out of their asses (unlikely), or we finally take control of them. With California pushing for EVs as hard as it is, I don’t see any other way than to take over the utilities; maintain the stupid high prices and use the profits to upgrade the grids.
Also, my condolences for being controlled by PG&E. I’d want to kill someone by now.
