200d is perfect for flat countries with low speed limits

With such a relaxed pace and those comfy seats you'd probably fall asleep while driving. At least the bike keeps you on edge and awake.

This is an excellent idea. That interior looks absolutely amazing.

You can finally slow down from the fast pace of bicycle commuting and enjoy the scenery.

sounds wonderful :D

sides i love the combination of shitbox on the outside lap of luxury on the inside

It is a much better option than a car that’s the reverse. That interior color is one of my all time favorites.

I can't believe how clean that interior is for how care worn the exterior is..

Would there  be some fees over the auction price? Otherwise it could be a steal

Getting that thing to 130 (81 mph, the local speed limit there) will be a chore though. When you buy a w123 200d I guess you have to accept to stay in the right lane at all times.

Both the seller and the buyer pay fees on that website. At least they did when I sold cars on that website.

Did you know that website is located in Assen? They are huge now, but one of.my best friends was employee #5 or something like that back when they were a startup. So he was able to negotiate me a much lower seller fee :)

ha that would be a fun wager/test , I’d imagine it’s in the 40-50 second range.

It supposedly takes 27-29 seconds for 0-100 kmh (62 mph). Top speed: 130-135 kph. That makes me chuckle hard.

I drove my 1987 Peugeot 205 cti on the German Autobahn yesterday. That little subcompact 32 year old convertible is faster from 100-200 (in top gear, starting at 2800-ish rpm!) than the Benz is from 0-100 :)

I don’t think many have an appreciation for how slow a 200d is.   I mean you could wrap that car in spandex and it still would have a hard time keeping up with cyclists.

I drove a 200d once, but it was a w124 (1986?) . Which weighs less and has more hp. Maybe 10-12 extra hp, but that’s a rather significant percentage more . Anyway, even that was very  leisurely . 4 speed manual.

A lot of economy cars had significantly more HP and similar torque numbers . I’m honestly shocked Mercedes even sold the 200d, unless it was a tax dodge special.

I guess it was considered ‘sufficient’ by many people back then. People generally drove slower back then as well, so the 200d (at least the w124 one)was powerful enough to move with traffic. Given the insane odometer reading these cars frequently had the engines did not suffer from being given full throttle from time to time either. Half a million km was more rule than exception. They were frequently used as taxis as well.
