I’m pretty sure they relocated the battery to the trunk for weight distribution. They first did it on the E36 , and there is plenty of room for the battery under the hood. They’re just going for that 50/50 weight distribution, and a big heavy battery that doesn’t need to be close to the engine is the perfect candidate for moving som e weight rearward.

Yea the missing dipstick isn’t an M3 quirk it’s a BMW quirk. No BMW’s had dipsticks from like 2006-2018. And yes they all have to wait till the oil warms up to actual take the measurement. Also the battery thing is a BMW thing not an m3 thing but you did mention that.

Actually E34 also had the batter y moved out of the front hood, but it went to under the rear passenger seat instead.
