She was born October 24, 1960. She passed away on January 8, 2001. I was 11.
In honor of her, I am posting some of her favorite cars.
Her first car was a red late-‘60s VW Beetle.
My grandad was a used car dealer and he gave his kids whatever cars he had on the lot at the time. He sold my mom’s Beetle when he got a good offer on it, and she was very upset. To appease her, and because he was having trouble selling it, he gave her a 455 Trans Am which my uncle (her little brother) says she used to embarrass several guys on back country roads.
My mom was an interesting lady. She drove a stick shift better than any guy I knew, and she often did so in a skirt and heels.
I remember once, when I was about 8 or 9, her car (a ‘91 Chevrolet Corsica LT), had a dead battery and wouldn’t start. I was late for school and she was late for work, so she grabbed the keys to my stepdad’s ‘94 Silverado dually and we took off. It was a manual and I marveled at her shifting while wearing heels.
She also had a ‘94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, bought used in ‘98. It would surprisingly haul ass and my mom took advantage of that a lot.
Rest easy, mom. Miss ya.

What a beautiful tribute to your mother! Let’s hope that she’s still heel/toeing in the ever after.

Oh man, it was hard enough losing my mom when I was 30. I can’t imagine it at 11. Thank you for sharing this. Your mom was really cool. I did a write-up of my mom’s cars years ago, but never published it. Maybe I’ll dig that out of the draft dungeon one of these days and finally add the pictures.

It was hard. Still is. I turn 30 next month and I still miss her every day. She wasn’t perfect, but she did the best she could with the cards we were dealt (my dad was an alcoholic and passed away in 1991 when I was 2).

Nobody is perfect, but she seems to have done a pretty good job with you, with the time she had :)
I miss my mom everyday too. I’d give anything to see her hug her grand babies just once.

Wow, she had cool cars. My mother had a Plymouth
duster before I was born with a slant 6 and later when I was a kid she had a manual crayola crayon green 1978
Saab 99 coupe with dark green interior. It was a sporty fun car!

My mom had a while Beetle as her first car. She Orlove’d it, but both her and her dog were ok. She’s 71, and doing pretty well (retired last year).

Nice tribute, my mom drove this when I was little, yes it was Manuel. She’s still around but my MI L just died recently and so my poor 2-yo son is down to just one grandparent

My kids only have their grandpa’s left. My dad isn’t very involved either, so it’s only my father-in-law that they have any relationship with any depth.
