I don’t have to ask, to know I can’t afford it.  Unless they’ll take a trade for a scooter ... then we can talk.

All of a sudden I start to wonder what the result of a Singer style “restoration-but-better” process on things like TR6s and MGBs would result in. So much of what was wrong with them was a question of incomplete development, dodgy components, and only fair build process quality. Sure, we’re already seeing that with the XKE, but I’d be curious to see what a “perfect” TR6 would be like.

It is a business expense after all.

A “perfect” TR6 is achieved by putting a TR6 body on a Miata or S2k chassis.

That way you get all of the good parts of the TR6 (the looks) and none of the bad parts (everything else).

If you can’t afford the donor car, you can’t afford them to ‘make it nice’.

Okay, but what if a whole new bespoke system was developed at outrageous expense, vaguely resembling the old parts but engineered to perfection? You’re suggesting people do what makes sense and isn’t expensive. What is wrong with you

TR6s are nice cars, but you are always reminded that they are a TR4 underneath the skin. I wouldn’t say they’re a penalty box - they certainly are great fun and actually pretty well constructed, especially compared to its contemporaries (though MG’s were always better built than Triumphs).

The Singer cars are based on something that was actually good to begin with. Old British Crap was not good to begin with, and is even worse by modern standards, and that’s the fundamental problem.

Other resto-mod outfits like the Icon 4x4s or modern Power Wagons are based on finding a rust-free body, and then fitting it on a modern-ish chassis & powertrain. That’s what would need to be done with MGs or Triumphs.

I’m picturing a new (actually rigid) frame, Mustang II front suspension, and a trailing arm suspension sort of like the original, but with geometry actually calculated instead of #YOLO. A Toyota straight six with sidedraft two-throttle-body EFI. What I’m saying is, some people like highly polished lacquered crap. If they wanted something that was completely un-crap they wouldn’t want a “perfected” TR6 in the first place.

What I’m dreaming here is something to give supercar snobs and Triumph originalists death by migraine at the same time.

Seeing how Pagodas have stagnated at best, and 190SLs have really cooled off, I wonder how many will be rushing for this. These cars are best in nice driver quality so they can be enjoyed.

300SLs on the other hand continue to be treated like precious gems, and migfht find some customers.

Mercedes offers a factory restoration service where you can send them whatever old benz you’ve got and for a completely reasonable amount they will restore it to showroom fresh condition.

For kicks I inquired about having my w124 300E done. They wanted roughly a half-a-mil.
