We took the Mitsubishi Eclipse Down some rugged trails to see just how good the S-AWC system is at handling rough conditions.

I have not watched your review yet but I wanted to say that I had one as a rental car. T he tires squealed as I exited the rental lot. It was at that moment that I realized the only redeeming feature of this “car” is the split rear window, and taking photos of it for the purposes of degrading it on OPPO.

So I went looking, cause that’ s what I do, on the transmission this uses as that seems to be the limiting factor in a lot of these small off-roaders. It uses the Jatco JF011E. Same as the old Jeep Patriot and Compass as well as others like the lancer, sentra and outlander sport. There seems to be some reports of premature transmission failure in those vehicles, especially on forums where they use them off-road. If you look up the specs for that transmission its limited to 250 nm of torque, which coincidentally matches the 250 nm of torque the eclipse cross puts out from 1800-4500. i.e. the engine is limited by the transmission. I would be a little worried about working that transmission that hard, especially since peak torque happens so low. the crawl ratio is 16.8:1 btw. An interesting tidbit though, it fully locks the TC at 11 mph, so as long as you are going at least 11 mph you aren’t going to burn it up.

Thanks for the extra info on this one. Always love to hear more than we have time to research.
