There are worse ways to spend $7500

The biggest downside to an NC is not being able to blink at people with my headlights

I support this decision, although I'd argue that nothing with a soft top is ever truly "worry free." If you want worry free, get something with a metal roof that doesn't leak and can't be cut open with a pocketknife. Like a PRHT Miata.

I said worry free. Not “constantly worrying that some jackass is going to make me T bone him”
That said I do have my eye on a pair of Tomos mopeds .

I have been looking for a BRZ/FRS. But I have several problems with Them
1 I don’t like the way they look
2 it should be a lift back
B Boxer engines are stupid/only worth it if turbocharged and making the rumble.
4 they are still over 10k without going the high mileage/or beat to shit route.
Basically I don’t like them enough to consider spending the prices the still demand.

As a former Miata owner, I wholeheartedly endorse the decision to get one. Mine was in good shape but was only mostly waterproof. I had to keep a towel with me at all times like I was in a Douglas Adams novel. Of course, mine was also a 94. I don’ t regret it at all, but that soft top forced me to pay attention to the weather.

“It should be a lift back”
After living with the great fun/practicality balance of of a two seat hatchback coupe (RX7 a lifetime ago and MGB-GT before many of you opponauts were born) I was excited for the FR-S and BRZ when they came out, but crossed them off my possible daily list when I test drove and discovered no hatch.

That is the opposite of what I want.
Except it is a wagon. But an Audi out of warranty. Well

But at $2000, you’ll have $5000 to fix things. Which is good, because:
It currently runs rough and will need a timing chain service immediately. It drives but shouldn’t be driven due to potential issues with valve clearance if the timing gets too out of whack and IT WILL NEED A TOW once sold.
And
I’ve done a ton of work to it recently (see below), $10k+.
I’m sure it can’t be that bad if it scared the guy who spent $10k fixing it into selling for $2k...

Yup. The practically/fun of a RWD liftback is part of why a lot of my favorite cars are 80s sports cars my favorite the Starion, the first 4 Supras, AE86, s12 200sx, and S13 hatch , every RX7, 300zx they’re all liftbacks! Then there’s the 944 and Fox body Mustang/Capri , the F bodies, Corvettes c4-7 . I’ll never understand how or why that trend died.

The NC is great and plentiful - I’m looking for one myself right now and trying to close the deal on a turboed NC2.
Only thing I would mention would be that if you want a LSD, you’ll need to avoid the base models - in 2006 that’s “Touring” in 2007+ it’s “Sport”. Cars with the Suspension package will have Bilsteins and the LSD.

A 15-year-old Audi V8 is worth exactly negative dollars.

That’s more EssExtTee’s neck of the woods. I don’t know if they have Allroads there. It would have been considerably less tragic if Kennedy had been on a Honda Super Cub.

Yeah I wasn’t mad about this before but I am now. Those are cool as HELL cars that were still kind of practical too. Where are their descendants? Fricking CUVs probably

Well the Eclipse was a cool liftback car....
I still wish Mazda would just make a fastback Miata.

If they’re doing the extra crash testing they could probably also add some ‘back seats’ like the FRS and a lot of the 2+2 versions of the cars you mentioned.
I love the idea of a convertible but that would actually put me into a new Miata now that I think of it. The driving dynamics, small consumables and aftermarket support is what I want, but right now I can’t fit me, a passenger, and a 135 pound dog in a Miata at once (I think haven’t tried). Pretty much the only reason I don’t own a NC now. A lift back would solve that problem for me I think and get me into an ND.

That is one thing I love about my Rabbit Cabriolet. 4 seats means top down fun for the whole family, and the dog.

I always thought those were a great idea, a convertible based on an otherwise normal economy car. 4 seats and no sporting stuff people who just want a convertible don’t need

You’d be better off on a motorcycle than a moped. Bikes can get out of the way, they’re more visible, they handle better (usua lly) and stop faster and they’re more stable. Plus with bag jackets, you can hit things without insta-death.
