Finally after years of collisions and failed signal attempts, they are going to raise the 11'8" bridge. Those crash videos will be missed.

I really want to know how they’re going to pull that off. Hopefully it doesn’t effect Brightleaf Sq too much.

Are they going to raise the bridge or sink the road under the bridge?

Raise the bridge

Probably sink the road. The railroad( s) using that bridge would hemorrhage millions of dollars a day  if it were closed.

SAME. I have read about this a bunch and  I’ve always been under the impression it couldn’t be done

Actually you’re right. They just announced they would raise the bridge, but the “work zone” in the diagram is only at the overpass.

I’m not ashamed to say I’ve watched every crash... at least once. They put in stops, they put in lights, they put in an electronic sign. People ignored the sign, ran red lights, didn’t look up, and don’t seem to know the own height of their commercial vehicle. The bridge deserves no blame for the unrelenting stupidity of assholes.

I was wondering this too because it's probably an easier sell for drivers to loose the road for 6+ months than it is for the railways to loose the route that long..  although if they're literally raising the existing trestle bridge maybe it's not as time consuming as I expect..

I am going to assume they’re gonna.... maybe raise the tracks down the way and just replace the bridge? I mean I’ve been there it’s not gonna be a easy project.... I am also not an engineer so...I dunno.

Its scheduled to be done in less than two weeks.

Hmm thats Japan level public project speed. In Hawaii it would be three years. I watched them add a lane out to Ewa Beach for years.

Can’t the road be lowered?

That would be prohibitively expensive because a sewer main runs just a few feet below the road bed...

I g uess it’s not prohibitively expensive anymore.

Now it will be the 11' 9" bridge  :P

Raising the trestle would require raising the approaches to the trestle (which would probably require raising neighboring intersections ).

If they’ve got a solution for the drainage/pipes under the 11'8" bridge, digging it out would be much easier.

I don’t see  the issue here. Jack it up, add two layers of bricks done.

And then here comes the lawsuit and whining the the people who run the 11’8” Chanel won’t have a Chanel any more.

Trains are very sensitive to inclines so raising the bridge means modifying the tracks for a long way in each side of the bridge to make sure you don't build too steep of an incline.

Yeah, I figured changing the road and modifying drainage would be easier..

Its a train bridge. They would have to change the grade for a long distance either side of the bridge.

Yeah from H1, they expanded it for all the golf course home projects like Haseko. I drove out there sometimes and some braddah is just sitting on a backhoe talking story, nobody doing nothing. Japan would have had the road done in a month.
