It must be beatable . Audi even came fairly close with a crazy 5000 Turbo in the 80's. Bill Elliot’s NASCAR record was with a series-legal car, even. Perhaps  Porsche should have tried with the 919 Evo tribute, it'd have a fair shot if they trimmed it out.
