Or

Kinja'd!!!

Want to put some new rims on the Volvo as the current ones are a bit rashed. What do you all think, A or B?

Update:

To add some context, I’m doing a bit of a rally theme with the Volvo (after the last few mechanical bits are done) , so whatever wheels I get I’m going to plastidip (which is why I wasn’t worried about the minor scratches on set A, nor the messed up centercaps, those are cheap). I liked A because they remind me of the OZ rally wheels, but B is also reminiscent of classic rally style wheels , so I think either would be good.

I’ve been dickering around with the guy selling set A for a 2 weeks now. I tried to get ahold of him again earlier today and still nothing, so I think he’s ignoring me or blocked me. I also found a few of his other ads and they seem kind of sketchy, so maybe I’m dodging a bullet here. But I think my decisions has been made for me.

Tough call. I like the simple design of option A, but I think option B will give a sportier look.

Do they come with the tires as well? Because B looks to be winter tires if you need those.

I do like B better though as well.

A already has some issues with that center cap. If you're upgrading go B

B. My parents have A on their S80 and I hate the look.

If you can find them, I’d also consider these OEM wheels:

Thanks for the offer but I want to stay with a smaller wheel.  Found some pictures of 850s/V70s dropped on those wheels and they look good, but I’m going more for rally style and want something smaller.

Thanks for the input. I’ve seen the wheel on an S80 as well and it doesn’t really suit that car. I thought it might look good on the 850 though, especially after I plastidip it.

As for your other suggestions, the quasi-3 spoke wheen breaks my brain, but the other 2 look really good!

Make sure you pay attention to the offsets and center bore size of the wheels you are looking at. I think the center bore is different between the P80 cars and the P2 cars and you may need rings to make up the difference or you would have to have the centers bored out to fit. Good news is that Volvo makes some really good looking wheels to choose from.

These used to be mine. He is an amazing welder and I traded them for a custom downpipe.

Dang! T he P2 bores are smaller than the P80 bores, and the Zeus wheel is a P2, so I’d need to have it bored out. I had this done once a long time ago on a set of H2 wheels for a Dodge Ram, but I can’t remember what it cost.

There are a bunch of nice options that fit the P80 platform. Or you can get something like a Sparco Assetto Gara (I really like these wheels) which are light and very strong and cheap . Then you just need the plastic or aluminum hub ring to fill up the space. I ran them for two years on my C30 without issue.

Boring the barrels is probably not a huge cost, but something about it makes me nervous.

Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it.

I found my receipt for my truck wheels and it was $250. That would make the cost of wheels and having them bored more than I paid for the car. On one hand it’s fun and I like messing with the car , but I don’t want to get way upside down on it. I’ve got a few fun “rally mods” planned but they are simple stuff, mainly graphics and and some 6" 100w driving lamps I got at a discount store (4 lamps for $16!!!), all stuff that’s pretty cheap. Getting new wheels was driven primarily by finding those Icarus wheels for $100 but I think the guy is a scammer, so that aint happening.

That said, I’ve been doing some research and I’m tempted to get those wheels if I can talk the guy down a bit (he’s asking $250) and bore them myself. I know this sounds crazy but I think it can safely be done . My hubs are 65.1mm and those wheels are 63.4mm, a difference of 1.7mm, which means I need to remove 0.85mm radially. I have a router and can use a 1/32" lower bearing bit, which takes off 0.79mm, then finish the hole using a cylinder hone.  The beauty of this way is, using the bearing bit and router, it relies on the concentricity of the hole and flatness of the wheel face, so you’ll get a nice concentric cut if the wheel is made correctly, in other words its hard to screw up. I’m really thinking about giving it a shot.

There was a thread on Swedespeed that showed a jig a guy made for his router to make sure everything remained straight. It seemed like a good method, as I recall. EDIT:  All I can find is the following where it seems that the guy free-handed it.

Glad to help. Where are you located?

I’ve found a few threads on a few different forums, and some youtube videos on the topic. I think if I take my time and pay attention I can do it safely.

I’m in northern Virginia, Sterling area. You’re in the DC area too, aren’t you?
