Speed gets the headlines, but the understeer is upsetting. Definitely erring on the side of safety, and you can’t blame them.
Hope they will fix that with the Grand Sport and Z06.

MotorTrend’s 0-60 always seem a bit deceiving. I think because of the 5 foot rollout they use. I’m looking forward to seeing more real world results.
Either way it’s no doubt pretty incredible for a “base” Corvette.

2.8 seconds is IIRC about as quick as a vehicle can accelerate without tricks like uber-sticky tires. and I mean sticky like drag slicks, which melt and basically glue themselves to the track.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Those are good numbers. Didn’t seem to say in the article, are these still pre-production models?

Ok 2.8 sec. yeah it’s quick but I want to see non launch control numbers. Launch control is silly.

They know their audience. And they don’t want those 60+ year olds spinning their brand new corvette when they leave cars and coffee.
And yeah, ideally they will dial back the understeer for the performance trims.

I guess? I realize I’ m a dabbler only in automotive writing so I can only judge by my gut , but I can’t say I recall a single thing he wrote.

exactly, that should be right up my alley, but it was completely and totally forgettable...and 4 years after it was actually starting to become a thing.

Road and Track has been my favorite American car mag for years, but with all the Jaloopnik alum in it now its getting a little worse with every issue.

They know their audience, but they also wanted this car to reach a younger demographic (who can still afford a $60k+ car...).
Again, the headline is how quick it is, and that plus the “exotic”
attention-getting looks will be plenty for most buyers.

I think he’s alright. He’s still young, but he’s got a knack for developing a voice that at least gets mainstream attention. My presumption on the situation is that Oppo tends to gather a more... divergent crowd.

Chevy has experience building ass engined cars before. They want the Naderator after them again.

oh I don’t think he’s bad, per-se, not at all. I just don’t think he’s very interesting. I understand that my perspective leans more david tracey obsessive detail vs digestible media bites. There is a defined route for achieving mainstream media success these days and if you follow it with exactness you’ll find it , but it doesn’t lend itself to being very memorable as the route is well worn by now.

I’m hit and miss with him, and I can definitely see why you would think that - and the problem is that the formula you refer to ala the defined route works . It shouldn’t, but it does, because we’re apes with 2-ply asswipe. I can’t blame him for catering to a market that doesn’t emphasize quality over 5 hot seconds.
But it doesn’t make what comes out of it very interesting or unique.

That’ s the gist of it for me.
About 10 years ago I figured out you could skip the first 2 or three paragraphs of any article in a car magazine because they were all the same fluff to ease you into the story. No new information, just the writing warming up their metaphors before the show. Its wrote, stale and boring or is at least from the enthusiast’s perspective. Some stories you have to skim a lot further in to get some meat. Sometimes the story is empty calories all together.

It’s almost like Chevy knew what they were doing when they moved the engine to the middle of the car.
