My head unit only has one video input. The 250 now has a camera on each license plate (guessing where the front end really is is tricky being far and tall). The cameras are standard rca and I’m hoping to use a toggle to switch between front and rear. They’re externally powered down stream.

Seems like it could work.
Potentially cheaper and easier to just get something like this for $6.50 :

I’ll admit that’s an ugly solution and somewhat bulky solution, but there might be other things out there, this was the first I saw.

That was the initial route but it's size and only needing the video. Plus my route it's a single hole drilled, not sure how to access that switch easily. But ultimately I took the idea of that thing and tried to figure out whats inside it.

Your sketch is aesthetically pleasing, and the circuit should work. Noise intro
duced to the signal from the switch will be non-zero but it shouldn’t be bad, especially just for use as a back-up (and I guess front) parking camera.

Glad you posted this. I’ve been thinking of multiple cameras in my windowless cargo Transit.
Video signals will travel OK through a standard DPDT switch?
What is the front license plate camera for?
What are the RCA plug/sockets called?

Im hoping using twisted cabling should help with noise, but you're right the big decider will be the switch. And you're correct on their function.

This should do the trick: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/703119-REG/Ocean_Matrix_OMX_VIDEO_AB_OMX_VIDEO_AB_Composite_Video_RCA.html
It’s smaller than the bulky AV switchers that pass audio too and appears to have a quality switch. It’s small enough to just Velcro to the top of the dash. The switch doesn’t appear to have enough thread to mount though the dash but you could probably pop the box open and see if there is more hiding inside.

I’d use coax like RG59 if I was going the DIY switch route and get solder-on connectors as well as solder the switch. It’s a little more work but will minimize noise and should hold up better long term.

Thats not a bad idea and mounting could get creative to hide it just enough. I'm only $12 invested so far so I'll try the DIY method and see how the noise is and keep this as my backup plan.

Im guessing they will be this is an experimental setup.
Front camera is so I don’t keep parking multiple feet from the vehicle in front of me in a parking lot (I normally park way out in the open but have to park in a close spot.)
Those are screw terminal rca connectors

Thanks.
Curious to see how much video noise you get.
I see o
thers think it’s doable although you’ll have some noise.
