Reaching out in desperation as I can’t fix the problem myself. I no longer receive message notifications from my wife on my iPhone XS running iOS 13.1.2

The notifications come through on my iPad Air 2 (on iPad OS 13.1.2) and on my Apple Watch Series 1 (on Watch OS 5.3.2). But never on my phone. Do Not Disturb is NOT on for her contact. Any ideas?

I have tried deleting and re-adding her contact and doing a force restart of the phone. I also toggled the “hide alerts” option for her contact and message thread on and off again.

P.S. If your only answer is to mention how Android is better, please don’t waste your time and mine.

Thanks, Oppo!

My MiL has the same issue; she is only getting notifications on her iPad but not her iPhone. We tried everything we could, but I do not think we could anything other than say to visit an Apple store.

Have you tried just not using iMessage at all to see if her texts come through?

Point of clarification:  is it the notifications that aren’t coming through, or the messages themselves?

The messages themselves  come through fine. Just no notification that they have arrived.

Is it possible the iPad is cloned off of the the iPhone and thinks it’s a primary device? Maybe make the iPhone your primary device and log out of your apple id account on the iPad. I thought the apple watch worked through your phone via blue tooth.

To clarify, you are receiving notifications from other contact messages? I f she texts, you do see the red alert bubble but no lock screen notifications?

Correct! I would see the red alert bubble but I have it turned off. Always have since my first iPhone because I’m OCD and hate looking at them.

What happens is, she’ll text me, the iPad goes off, and then I go into the messages on my phone and it’s there. But, if I’m not near the iPad and not wearing my Watch, I’ll never know she’s messaged me unless I physically go into the messages app.

Okay, this is a weird thing but it might work for you, it has for some others...new iOS is designed to look for a second phone line/SIM card and this can sometimes cause notification issues. There may be something under Settings>Cellular to tell it to stop looking for a second line/sim but I’m not 100% sure on that. Might have to involve your carrier. I now it sounds odd, but has worked for some people.

Another weird one that might work is to change your DNS servers to a manual address using Cloudflare or Google DNS.

Sometimes turning signing out of iCloud, turning off notifications, iMessage, etc. THEN doing a soft reset and/or hard restart will work - at least temporarily, possibly permanently.

The last one is the only one that seems to make sense for me, but some people have sworn the first two have worked as well. I think it’s a known issue without a known solution yet.

Oh, in Settings>Face ID & Passcode, make sure notification center is allowed while locked, if you have’ t already.

Never mind this reply, was suggesting something you’ve already tried.

My first and easiest suggestion was to go to settings>notifications and make sure it’s enabled for iMessage, but it seems you’re getting notifications for other people who text you through iMessage, so it’s not that. Galileo’s suggestions ar good ones.

I may have one thing to add. For a while, my wife wasn’t getting notices from my texts either. We share my iCloud account, and under the Settings>Messages menu, where it says what contacts you can send and receive from, her phone number was checked as well as mine. I think it was thinking we were one in the same because of that, and it wasn’t notifying her (going off memory from many months ago here). So, you might check to see that only your phone number is checked on your phone, and only hers is checked on her phone.

Good luck. Apple makes good stuff, but it’s getting so complicated that when it goes wrong, it’s impossible to figure out.

This is a solid suggestions as well, definitely should check the Send/Receive settings as well.

Do other message threads notify you properly or is it just messages from her that have the issue?

My family shared two iCloud accounts and this gets frau bluchered every time we update the os. Everyone starts getting everybody else’s texts.

Is there a specific time when this started happening?

Two guesses: 1) your settings are off or 2) there’s something wonky about how your phone ended up subscribed to Apple’s n otifications service and you need to unsubscribe it and resubscribe.

For 1), go to Settings -> Messages -> Send & Receive. It’s possible you have multiple iMessage destinations set up (e.g. your phone number as well as your email address), your phone is set up to only receive at your phone number, and all your other devices are set up to receive everywhere. Thus, if most people you know text you at your number, you’ll be notified just fine on your cell, but if your wife is composing iMessages to your email address, you’ll only be notified on the other devices, even if the threads end up combined .

For 2), you could maybe pop in somebody else’s SIM card, activate iMessages on that number temporarily, then go back? Not really sure what triggers an iMessages number change.

Kidding! What happens if you turn off/airplane mode all other devices? Did you end up checking whether the messages are being composed to your number or your email address?
