Kinja'd!!!

After a long drive I have made it to mammoth Lakes for my overnight hostel stay. All of my gear is ready so I just have to engulf a bunch of food, get a good night’s rest, engulf even more food, and then get on the trail.

My route due to the fire was pretty nice. I should have stopped to take some pictures but I enjoyed the drive for sure. 33 through Ojai I’ve done a few times and it’s always enjoyable when not stuck behind someone. Then Lockwood Valley Road was a bit bumpy but otherwise a very scenic and fantastic road to make up some time on. It took 6hr30 minutes with stops so I definitely made good time and it wasn’t too much of a detour versus the 5.5-6 for the other more direct route.

Tomorrow will begin the real adventure!

Glad you made it.  Was watching the Chopper 5 fire coverage stream part of the afternoon-- bizarre to see ZERO traffic on the 5, 14, 210 and 118.  I think 118 re-opened first, but you’d have had a brutal day trying to go via Newhall or Sierra Highway.

Yeah I'm glad to be away from all of that for the weekend. Hopefully it's settled down by Monday and the roads open up. Otherwise I'll have a fun time getting home..

I got stuck behind people about half of the time but at least it was scenic either way.
