Yay! Hope a decent backup plan was in place. Otherwise, you can hope that the connector just came loose or something, but that seems unlikely on a modern laptop.

It IS funny that the “redundant boot sector” thing Microsquish used to brag about never seems to prevent these types of failures.
Here either the cable’s off, the controller chip died (unlikely) or the disk has gone all UAW-on-Strike.

I did like three times, it didn’t reboot until the IT guy called me and I did it a 4th time. My trust in this machine is diminished.

Regardless of redundant boot sectors, I’m glad we have redundant BIOSs these days, let me tell you, swapping a bricked BIOS chip into a running computer to flash it is no fun.

I’ve spent too much time dealing with the UEFI Bios lately.
I’ve been basically converting all my machines to Linux, but every time I have to trick the BIOS into letting me re-write the disk. Clever. but annoying.
I think the only Windows machine I have left has my copy of HP Tuners (and licenses on it).

Sounds like it would be a good time to clone your hard drive over to a replacement.

I don’t save anything work related on this computer so if it takes a shit it’s not a big deal. It would really suck to be on a trip tho and have it die on me.
