The spookster Miat - pic unrelated
Turning in my two weeks today to start a new role in the world of cyber security. Currently I’m at financial tech bank consultant and my past experience was in automotive lending, so I am expecting this to be a fun transition away from banking. Additionally, striking while the MBA diploma is still fresh off the printer, this feels like the kind of move I was wanting post MBA. It’s fresh, has long term career potential, met my dream salary, and it kind of fell in to my lap. That last thing is what really makes it feel right. I can’t wait to get started honestly.
I’m hoping to get walked out, but if not I’ll definitely be struggling to stay engaged for the next few weeks.

I wonder where they got those fangs for the Miata. I want a pair for my C7.
Also, congrats! I really want a MBA, but I never finished my bachelors. Luckily I get paid ok anyway, but my career’s not moving in the way I want it to really.
Cyber security is really cool and please be sure that when something you designed protects the company that the leadership knows. A lot of people don’t understand that everything is a tradeoff between security and convenience.

Well lucky for you, I own that Miata. I actually made those. White cardboard, wrapped in packaging tape, zip tied to the grille. The last set I made lasted for many years and I ended up throwing them out in our move. Why I remade them and left them looking lispy is beyond me, but I did.
Interesting side note on the security thing! What I’ll be doing is managing the clean up process (more or less) from security breaches. So if data is stolen how a company should proceed, what to say to clients/customers, and what is happening so it won’t happen again.

Good luck! Cyber security seems like a good place to be. I just left banking/finance and might try my hand at consulting in the future.

I know it’ll be a bit of a transition for me. I’ve only thought about banking and bank products for a while now. Excited for the change though! The growth potential looks fantastic so I’m hoping this will be the last company change for a good bit.

Oho! Now I think I should be doing the same.

TBH I am genuinely interested in what goes on during that stage of a breach. Please let me and the rest of Oppo how things go. (Specifically identifying /damning information excepted, of course.)

N otes for the fangs: I made sure to layer the tape and the ends are always on the back then extra coverage on that to keep the ends from peeling up. I cut the holes for the zip tie with a box cutter then push a pen through it so they would open up. The zip ties I got from the ATT dude that came by the apartment complex. I noticed a while ago they have MASSIVE zip ties so I just asked if I could have two and he gave me a bundle.
I am quite excited to learn more about how the process goes. I’ll definitely update on how things are going once I get in to it.

Awesome notes! Inevitably your effort will probably have been higher quality than mine will be without them. How big are we talking with these zip ties? I have some a quarter inch wide and a foot long, if that matters.

Ball park they’re a bit longer than a foot and quarter inch or less sounds about right. It’s just nice to have the length instead of chaining smaller ones together through the grille. Doesn’t matter too much, just convenience .

My last two weeks was brutal. I ended up taking a few days of vacation at the end for myself instead of getting them paid out. It was nice to relax and provide some time to mentally recuse myself from my old job, reflect, and prepare. I started full time two days after graduating, regretted that after a bit, and learned to take some time. Here’s hoping you do have some time off in between (whether you’re walked out or not)
Congratulations!
