It’s been a while since there’s been a good contribution to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but the residents came back with a vengeance. Clearly they saw what the residents of La Grange, KY were up to last month and didn’t want to be outdone in the “Just Train Stupid” category.

Seems like a poorly designed crossing, actually. I hate people who cut lefts that much, but they would have been looking mostly at the pointy end of the barrier, and the train was coming from behind. So not the best situational awareness, but that crossing is not nearly as obvious as most from where the Jetta was approaching. They probably had to change their pants after giving that thing the beans.

100% agreed. If someone’s allowed to make a left turn like that across the crossing, there should be double gates preventing turns like this.

At the very least, there should be a set of lights and a “no left turn” sign that comes on when the gates come down.

Fair, except that when there’s a train coming there’s a blinking light pointed at the road the Jetta came from that says “NO LEFT TURN”

I also live in an Ashland which made me wonder how many States have towns named Ashland. 16. 16 states have towns name during Ashland. And I bet every single one of them is boring AF.

That one in Kentucky, that’s just poor, or completely lack of civil engineering, like who biults a bunch of shops and stuff in a road with train tracks running through the them.

Wait, who builds a road on top of active train tracks?!

It’s more common than you think. Most states have at least one location with “street-running trains.”

In the case of towns like La Grange, the tracks were there first, long before cars existed. The town popped up around the tracks, and largely due to the tracks, so during the formation of the town it was only logical that the tracks would be the “main street. ” Shops and buildings were built alongside the tracks to serve the trains and the people riding them. Eventually the automobile was adopted and the town had to either relocate their town center away from the tracks or make it so that cars and trains share the main street.

HO LEE CRAP...

Did the car in the first click see the train before turning, or were they just oblivious until they were right in front of it?

Clearly need bars coming down on both sides to create an actual physical barrier (because people are idiots).
