You are a liberal. Great. You are a conservative. Great. Democrat, Republican, Li bertarian, Green, etc. Great. Hate Trump. Great. Love Trump. What’s wrong with you? :)
But I am so sick of the tripe spewed on the main sites — this time, Deadspin. Where I go for sports news and related articles . Where I see stuff like this:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Yep, call W a war criminal. Rant and rave about everything. And then wonder why the Democrats lost the last election.
So now Deadspin is off the bookmarked sites list. And if this shit gets shared to Jalopnik, I am done with them too.

Didn’t ranting and raving about everything win the Rs the last election? And didn’t shitting on the Bush’s (along with war hero Republicans) win Trump the Republican nomination?
I thought everyone was now in agreement that invading Iraq was a very fucked up thing to do?
I am very confused by your take. Sounds like you need a beerortwoorthree

Politics is not as present in sites like Jalopnik as much as some complain... other kinja blogs are... but that’s natural since.... and I cannot stress this enough:

Welcome to POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!!
Dealing in Sith-like absolutes and trying to drown out liberty with thunderous applause for being bullies since time immemorial. Brought to you by the likes of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.
“If you aren’t with us, you are against us. If you are against us, you are an irredeemable evil enemy.”
If you want to evaluate people’s viewpoints and rational discourse... the first thing to look at is how they treat those who disagree with them.
Patience and kindness is great
Rational discourse is wonderful.
A bit of sarcasm and frustration... understandable sometimes.
wholesale vilification, character assasination, and ad-hominem attacks: chances are they are forcing political correctness as social pressure, aka activism.
Orchestrating violence, destroying livelyhoods, and even massacre... they are forcing political correctness under color of authority, and at the business end of a weapon. (has been done MANY, MANY times throughout history.)

I mean, as far as war criminals go, he’s not that big of one. Working with the intel we had (to my knowledge) the assumption of WMDs was valid and invasion seemed appropriate. Hindsight is 20/20.

I think that article is there to confirm the ideas of people (of both political affiliations) unwilling to take a nuanced look at United States foreign policy.
Hence why it is on a sarcastic sports blog.
Ok.

Yeah, no, it was always bullshit. Fabrications , “evidence” from people with a vested interest in overthrowing Saddam, and of course claims of an Al Qaeda connection that never existed, and made no sense.
This is not to say Saddam was a nice guy, he was not, but there was a tremendous bad-faith effort to drag the US into war regardless of actual evidence.

Yeah, with the New Corporate Overlords (NCO) , one of the downsides is that you have lots of “cross-promoting” of posts... and some are blatantly, offensively political. It’s also probably helping the NCO pick up some clicks— while at the same time alienated the core audience.
I don’t in the least feel sorry for running aggressive Ad Blockers on all my devices, partly because I’m seeing all kinds of political stuff I’m sick of hearing about.

Started a war under false pretenses
Lover of torture
Indefinite detention without evidence
Secret p risons
Extraordinary r endition
Drone strikes without concern for civilian casualties
It may be a stretch to call some of these things war crimes (invading Iraq was against international law, but such unlawful wars have never really been treated as such, but we’ve certainly tried Germans and Japanese for war crimes using torture methods W approved of), but he was not a nice man and did a great many evil thinks not in keeping with American values, unless you want to argue that being terrified and lashing out at others without regard to guilt is an American value.

First off, deadspin has never ever stuck to sports. So, wrong site from the get go if this isn't your thing. Second, yeah the article is heavy handed but is it wrong? Its pretty much accepted he knew about torture and was ok with it, from an end justified the means approach. That definitely makes you a war criminal. Third, I bet Obama is too. And Clinton. And bush Sr.

It’s a story about two people sitting next to each other at a sportsball game, so it’s relevant for the sportsball site in the network, I guess.
However, I agree that the added far-left snark is off putting. The good news is that Ellen is Too Big To Fail, so people will get over it in a few days and move on to something else.

You know who WAS a war criminal? Saddam fucking Hussein Such a horrible thing that we went to war over wmds, not like, say, Uday Hussein murdering his own people.
George Bush is a terrible person for deposing their government.

Considering we went from Saddam constantly murdering his own people to the us army occasionally murdering people I say the war in Iraq was an overall good thing for them.

The US military has been the least of Iraqi’s concerns since we invaded. Toppling Saddam with zero plan as to what do afterwards is one of America’s great sins.
I would encourage you to study the history of the region, and what’s happened there since the invasion if you’re really interested.
Full disclosure, I was a sophomore when we invaded Iraq and was all set to enlist in the Marine Corps as a senior in high school. Got an academic scholarship that covered all my tuition and then some, so I decided to go to school. Met my best friend while at uni who had just got back from Iraq. He taught me a lot about what was going on there, which made me change my plans as far as the military was concerned.
Saddam was definitely an murderous asshole, but it’s sometimes better to have one than to have thousands.

It’s primarily a sports blog, and therefore anything that isn’t related to sports is naturally going to stick out like a sore thumb. To avoid this, they would need to re-establish the blog’s identity (making it official, and not as a matter of habit ) as being about “sports and politics” or “sports and celebrity culture”, or something like that, and then double-down on regularly and equally featuring stories covering either topic.
The writers obviously want to talk about other topics. Maybe they just really want to express their opinions, or are hungry to get easy clicks that by writing about popular things unrelated to sports. That’s fine, but there’s no need to clutter up Deadspin with that stuff. The Gizmodo Media network already has blogs for those other topics, and Kinja makes it super-easy for them to keep things organized. I don’t know why they don’t take advantage of the opportunity.
Say a Deadspin writer wants to talk about cars. He could randomly write an off-topic post on a sports blog, or... he could actually reach the audience he’s looking for by publishing the article to Jalopnik instead. All Patrick has to do is click a button, granting that person authorship (he can also undo this later if he wants the authorship to be temporary).

They have had that for a while, under the The Concourse banner. What you’re saying is spot on, but it’s something that’s already done and established. But check on some of the articles regarding the new leadership trying to pivot back, and the writer’s comments regarding that. Essentially, if we have to stick to sports we’re leaving, is the writer’s position, and has been.
I really would like to see more cross pollination, though. Got a car take? Come on over!

With t he blogs all connected in a network like this, I don’t think there’s a need for The Concourse to exist anymore. And no w that Splinter exists, Jezebel really doesn’t need The Slot, either . Earther can take on all the climate stuff, instead of lumping it in with all the political posts, and The Takeout could easily handle all of Lifehacker’s “Skillet” posts. I have no complaints about Jalopnik’s sub-blogs, though. All of them are car-, or at least transportation- related, and I don’t mind it one bit when a “car” blog discusses the bigger picture by including conversations about bikes, trains, and pedestrians. Even Foxtrot Alpha usually does a good job of sticking to ( military) vehicles... usually .
