Anyone ever done one? I never have until the Alltrack, but I’m really enjoying managing it! I’m hyper organized (you’ll know this if you’ve seen pics of my workbench/workshop.)
It’s so hard to buy the little things without a build sheet. I’m going to swap out the Alltrack’s factory suspension for the one from the Golf R. The are few dozen bits that I need from $25 to $500 but who want’s to buy a $25 bump stop just to have it sit around for months while you gather everything else.
There were three C
notes on my desk this morning!
Either money I won, or money from someone I helped out, I’m not sure yet. Anyway to the build sheet I go to ring up front and rear bump stops, spring pads, and the rear springs!
I chose the rear springs as they are from some weird Euro site and I’d like to knock that out first in case I have to find another place to source Golf R estate springs.
Any oppo’s do this/have tips?

I was actually just updating my Volvo build sheet / maintenance tracker. Mine is not nearly as nice/organized as yours, but it’s a great tool to have.

I did one (plus photos, receipts and a detailed maintenance log ) for my former 93 MX- 6, which eventually ended with a KLZE swap and a fair amount of other mods. I put it together for insurance purposes and gave it to State Farm once the car was back on the road with the engine swap. That worked out, because a year later when a (formerly) parked tow truck rolled the the street and into/over the MX- 6 while it was parked in front of my apartment, State Farm ultimately ended up paying me out almost $6k on a car with book value of about $3k at the time based on the documentation.
When my former 96 S uburb an got taken out by a hit and run driver, my detailed maintenance logs (along with the adjuster noting it looked like a brand-new old suburban, aside from the roll over damage) and receipts also increased the payout on it substantially as a condition adjustment.

I used to have something very similar for my MX-5, but with the Integra, I use a simple list on my phone. It involves not only parts, but also websites/contacts/shops that I’ve seen/heard of over the years and might go check out/use.

Same when I totaled my Protege 5. Paid $12,500, caught a check for $14,000 from insurance, lol.

That is how I do with the old Bimmer. Parts and the community are so vast that I’m probably calling a buddy or asking someone at a vintage meet before I’m making a list.

I have a super rough one on textedit with rough costs, where to buy, random fitment info copied off the internet and a wishlist. Things get deleted off as they are complete so I don’t have records. I’m thinking n
ext car I get will be more meticulous with my records.

Yes, but that is but one tab. I also have a maintenance tab, warranty, MPG. I also document the mileage at install of the parts so I can keep track of miles on parts, too. I don’t, however, have a fully spec’d buildsheet that documents future purchases. Of course right now, I don’t have anything further in mind for the 4Runner.

Why not just make a WheelWell page? or a build thread in a foru m?

I have a tab for my VCDS mods, but maintenance/warranty stuff I keep in a separate app in addition to the physical records . I used to keep track of the MPG, and log fill ups with all of the cars. Then I stopped a few years ago because I didn’t have a good reason to continue.

I’m getting lot s of ideas from other’s build threads, and may start one of my own once I do something worth mentioning. However that’s not a good medium to keep a log of parts, sources, prices etc...
This is mainly just for me so I know where I can spend a few extra pennies. I hate it when I go all in on things like shocks and springs, then forget there are hundreds of dollars worth of other parts I need at the finish line. I’m trying to get those out of the way first this time.
It also works well this time of year when my wife starts asking what I want for my birthday/christmas;)

I haven’t put much time/money into the land cruiser lately, but I do have a spreadsheet for it, as well as a few others I’ve made. I usually do a build sheet for bikes though. Here’s an example :

I really should do this. Would make it easier to keep track of the things I buy but dont install for months.

I tend to do a spreadsheet per-project, rather than one for the whole car. I can go back and reference part numbers if necessary, without it being too much info piled into one sheet (plus it keeps me from adding up total costs, which I do not want to know).

I have a spreadsheet for the truck, colorcoded for planned work, parts I have ordered and/or waiting to install, and work already performed. I also put the link to the parts in each entry.
I also had one of stuff I planned to do to the allroad, and of the Golf R before that . And I have two for the 997, a list of mods I planned to do before the bachelor life ended, and a maintenance log I compiled after going through all the included paperwork.

Haha yeah. I should be keeping track of the suspension components as I bet it will be this time next year and they wont be on yet.

Yeah you’ll end up like me accidentally ordering sway bar links twice lol. Or they just accidentally sent me one with an order, but I think i may have just ordered and forgotten.
Basically I got a package with sway bar links I already had and couldn’t remember ordering them, but my best guess was that I had and forgot.
