Spotted just a few days after !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but even rarer. One of 401 built , rumoured to be far less actually still existing. I gave the owner a thumbs up and he seemed chuffed.

Me gusta Mangusta is something I say on a semi occasional basis

Excellent spot! Most people don’t even know what it is and confuse it with the Pantera. A local Baton Rouge fellow has one which he takes out occasionally.

They are supposed to be pretty bad cars, but holy shit are they pretty.

Totally, but I reckon the Mangusta is the prettier of the two.

That mix of muscle car and sports car could only have come from the 60s

Interesting that in that post, the guy asks “Why would they change stuff on such a rare car?”

History hasn’t been kind to these. I reckon people are inclined to change stuff, since they weren’t built all that well anyway, and they’re rare but not especially significant. People change things out of necessity and no purists are gonna stop them from adding some bits.

The one I posted is registered as a blue car. Condition looked good, but original it is not.

It’s almost refreshing to see a classic Italian exotic but without the pretension. Likely why the man was cruising around in the thing on a Sunday rather than leaving it locked up.

The Pantera was a redesign of the Mangusta. The redesign was required because the Mangusta couldn’t meet the new bumper regulations. The Mangusta in Baton Rouge was one of a handful on which they were testing “bumperettes” as a solution.

I’m the guy that asked that question! What I was seeing wasn’t matching with what I knew, so I stopped to talk to the owner. The changes weren’t his - they were factory. The front spoiler was added to solve problems with the front end lifting at speed. The bumperettes were a test to see if it could meet the upcoming bumper regulations. The things they learned from their test cars were incorporated into the design of the Pantera.

It’s leather. The owner said it was a factory option, but I don’t know if I believe him.

*mind boggled*

Bedliner or plastidip might be better.
