I should probably trade in my 328 for this. It seems like a logical, responsible, and mature investment. Nothing could go wrong.
But really This is a good deal for a 135i M sport. Especially a later model like this. I think values on these will stay up, possibly even go up, so it shouldn’t depreciate as fast as my car either. But that twin turbo maintenance sounds scary.

The motor only has one turbo. It’s a twin scroll single turbo not a twin turbo.

These have really grown on me over the years. Sadly, they’re all too expensive — 128i or 135i — for the cost of entry now. Once all the 1Ms have been flipped on BaT, people will pay a king’s random for a low mileage non-M slicktop .

They changed over to the N55 single turbo (twin scroll) in 2010. My 2012 335ix has the same motor and other than some charge piping which broke it has been bulletproof. I had a bit of a trip today and it reminded me how much I loved this engine. When it is in the powerband it has one hell of a pull.

Yeah I didn’t know that the 2010 up we’re single turbo. The older 335i was a twin turbo tho. I just didn’t know that changed.

I did not know that. The last time I researched the 335 I was looking at older ones because that was what was in my price range.
I assumed that the newer ones were different just like the LCI 3 series. But I didn’t know they weren’t TT..

Just curious how many miles are on yours? The biggest thing is if I bought it I’d be going back to a 4 year loan. Which is pay off ASAP, but still it could have another 30k on it by the time I got it paid off.
If I keep my car I’ll have it paid off in 18 months.

That’s what I’d be hoping for. I’d just have to keep it stock, which would be easy. And keep it clean, which could be harder since I’ve never even owned a RWD car and there’s at least a 50% chance I’d crash it at some point.

The N54 can make more power with mods but it opens a can of worms in regards to reliability. My car has ju st ticked past 49,000 miles . It has been a god tier daily driver. The AWD system paired with the N55 makes one hell of an adverse weather machine . If you ever are interested in my E92 it will be for sale in a few months time when I trade it in for my Corvette. I think the smart play though is to keep you current car since it is close to being paid off.

I would not be worried about what makes more power with mods because a 1 35i bone stock would be the fastest car I’ve ever owned.
Keeping in my car is definitely the smarter thing to do, but not the fun one lol.

Yeah BMW started phasing out the twin turbo across the lineup starting in 2009 and made it confusing by branding the single twin-scroll turbos as TwinPower Turbo. Despite the older N54 version having two turbos and the fuel pump issues that caused BMW to extended warranties I think they are generally regarded as more reliable than the newer N55 that’s in the one you posted.

I have 124k on an N55 and other than the normal spots for gasket leakage (OFH, valve covers, oil pan), it’s been dead reliable. This is a really, really, really great price for a 135 M sport. I looked at one at CarMax a few months ago (fewer miles, like 50k or so) and they wanted $23k.

Other way around. Most owners will tell you that the BMW N55 is more reliable than the N54.

That doesn’t sound too bad. I’ve seen them around 16-20 with 60-80k miles. I have Not seen many high miles ones but I’ve been looking mainly on Carmax.
This one does have a less desirable color combo in my opinion, as it no colors at all.

They aren’t as scary as the Internet makes them out to be. Keep on top of regular maintenance, make sure you can DIY, and send it.
