They forced the nation’s highest gas tax on us, telling us it was to fix our shitty roads. Now, transportation projects in two of California’s poorest and brownest counties, with the highest population of immigrants, are being canceled. They are liars and hypocrites and repeatedly act to only help the wealthiest and whitest parts of the state.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Yhe money will almost certainly be spent on commissions and consultants to conduct studies and issue policy reports, just like the high speed rail money. These commissions and consultants will be the friends and family (and campaign contributors) of Democratic politicians. Just like high speed rail. And here in the San Joaquin Valley, we get shit on once again. This is why I hate the fucking Democrats. All they do is screw the place I live. Maybe the Republicans are shitheads, but the people who consistently hurt us aren’t those shitheads. Rant over.

I refuse to believe that this statement doesn’t cover all politicians

I voted for the gas tax because it was to only be used to catch up all of the deferred maintenance on our roads. I believed their promises that the money would not be used on other transportation projects. More fool me, then.

Gas taxes have many inherent problems, they are highly regressive, they are self-limiting, and poorly implemented. Infrastructure projects are notoriously rife with corruption, incompetence , and graft.
Building highways rarely fixes traffic problems and often makes them worse, and paying for upkeep/maintenance is glamorous and a hard sell.
Trains, subways, and trolleys are inherently more efficient than personal cars and have their place in a well designed transportation system (along with buses and other mass transit options). If more people ride the train instead of using the roads, the roads and traffic will improve.
At least the funds are being used for a transportation ‘solution’, if you had Republicans they’d use the money to subsidize toll roads that the state will be left footing the bill for repairs and upkeep after a couple of rounds of private companies skim money and declare bankruptcy (that’s what happened here in Texas under D ancing with the Stars’ (R) Gov. Rick Perry).
And Republicans cannot complain about hypocrisy, they’ve forever* lost that right.
*Republicans will regain the right to complain about hypocrisy only after acknowledging that Dwight D. Eisenhower was the last decent Republican President and his primary warnings were:
As we peer into society’s future, we – you and I, and our government – must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for our own ease and convenience the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. -Eisenhower’s Fare well address to the nation Jan. 17, 1961
Ike was a mixed bag (if we’re being honest all Presidents are), many of today’s problems have roots with his decisions and policies; however, he also genuinely strove to make the country better (Rea gan might have too, but Reagonomics, the War on Drugs, the Iran-Contra scandal, and disastrous actions and policies in the Middle East and South America all heavily contributed to some of today’s worst problems).
Convince me that the Republican party holds any ideals that are worth supporting. I’ll listen to your pitch and maybe you’ll convince me that a militant, religious fundamen
talist group
is worth supporting. Convince me that Donald Trump is a leader worth following. At least Nixon knew that the “Republican Ideals” were a calculated strategy to gain and hold political power (listen to the Nixon tapes, he draws up the blueprints for the modern Republican party and explains in detail how to dupe people into supporting a party that is against their own self-interests).

You will quite literally need to pry car keys from our cold dead hands. This state is NOT built for mass transit. Taking money away from actual road projects and directing it towards “reducing vehicle miles traveled” is absolute horseshit, and I voted for the fucking tax. Our roads in the state are horrendous and we need repairs.
While funding new mass transit projects is great in theory, you can’t do that while neglecting our already shit roads and highway systems. The 99 is the major artery for California commerce. No matter how many mass transit systems you build, goodwill still needs to be shipped from the Central Valley too places all over the state. By neglecting the roads we’re fucking with the backbone of this economy , and we’re going to suffer for it.

Do you really think it would be different with a republican governor? They see a huge pot of money and you expect them not to kick back to their backers? I would imagine they’d have to cook up some other excuse, you know with the republicans denying climate change and all that, but I imagine a republican gov wouldn’t think twice about plundering that tax money too.
Which is bullshit, that money should go to road works plan and simple, and it’s going to be used as a cautionary tales for other states like Michigan perhaps that are also trying to raise dollars for roads with gas tax money. I would think the state legislature can overrule this executive order by passing a law dictating where that money can be spent, but who knows if that will happen. I would think someone could file an injunction or whatever you call it, to stop the executive order, similar to what’s been happening when Trump makes some o verstepping immigration EO?

Homelessness in Los Angeles has also gotten really bad recently. There seems to be a lot messed up with the state politically and geographically, yet the southern part is still seen as a hub for influencers.
Also, don’t feel bad for diverting blame. I know this isn’t Facebook, but i t is what it is. Nothing bad seemed to happen when Nathan Deal, a Republican, was Georgia g overnor. Meanwhile, Alabama has had Republican political corruption for years. California has had a lot of problems recently, most of the people in power recently are Democrats. That’s too much of a coincidence. I can definitely see where you’re coming from.
I think it also stems from hypocrisy. Democrats have developed a reputation of being the helpers and world-changers, so when they’re lazy and don’t act, it’s much worse.
