Repost for workday crew: My Dad asked if I’d clean the JLU (for money & beer). Sure, I replied. So I drove it home after helping unload the rooftop tent.

MAN it was dirty. Coated in red clay dust from the desert. Hard as hell to clean...it’s like pushing red flour around. Total clean time: 4.5 hours

I just gotta give props for this at home crane option. That looks legit and I imagine turns a potentially difficult job become something easy and probably enjoyable.

What’s the point of stickers if you can’t show them off? (asks every other PNW Jeep/Toyota 4x4 owner).

I was initially suspect of that little crane, but I suppose it only has to lift so much weight, and I missed the bracing in the first pic.

I think the tent is 130-150lbs. The crane has been modified a couple times after failures, but my dad is typically pretty good at this kind of thing.

I personally think he should just shell out to have some aluminum fabbed up for the main boom

Damn, there went the authenticity . A guy like me would look at that, all shiny ‘n’ clean, stick my nose up in the air, and say “hmmf! bet he’s never taken that thing off road once!” I guess next time I see a clean 4x4 I’ll have to stop and consider that maybe the owner did take it out in the dirt where it belongs, but then went crazy and actually washed it afterwards .
