The proportioning valve is bad, and the wagon/police/tow one for 11" rear drums does not exist new or rebuilt at any price. Looks like the “easiest” solution is to use a later master cylinder and replumb all the brakes.

While a hassle for sure, a new M/C, prop valve, and all the lines is pretty good insurance against brake failure, which is a nice thing to have.

Well that's sucky.

Is it rebuildable at all? Like can you disassemble it and replace the seals and stuff in it?

I had that same problem with my ‘84 Town Car, proportion valve blew completely and lost all brake pressure. The wagons are different and wouldn’t fit without plumbing, and nobody sells new or remanufactured, and most of the junkyards I called wouldn’t sell a used one due to liability concerns. Eventually found one in upstate New York that would ship, but it was off the road over a month.
I bought a wagon one by mistake, but have no idea where it is now.

Nope. It is like it never existed . Every place lists one valve for everything, despite it being for 10" rear brake cars. They are physically different shapes too so i can't just put the other valve in.

It might be in my closet full of JBL Electronic Sound radios and parts. Will check once I get off the side of the highway, dealer didn’t put a tire back on right after replacing a failing TPMS sensor, so I’m waiting for a tech to come deal with it.
EDIT: mine looked/looks a bit different - it came off an LTD Country Squire, but is more rounded/cylindrical, not flat and squared off?

Could you maybe plumb something to make the standard proportioning valve fit?

Are the ports in the same place? C an you take a pic?

If I have to replumb I’m just going to put the later and more available unit in. Saves me hassle if it ever goes again.

Can you just use an adjustable aftermarket one?

Im still about an hour from home dealing with this tire issue, but I had a picture of it in my email from back when it shipped.
I believe it was off a 1980 model. Silly me not to realize Ford used so many versions of a mundane part on cars that were otherwise so similar to each other and changed so little year to year.

That looks close enough I can ma ke is work by tweaking the existing lines. email me at improbcat at gmail dot com and we can work out my buying it.

Check with Muscle Car Research and see if they offer a rebuild kit. They didn’t have one for me, but they were able to put a kit together after I provided some VERY careful measurements (ID, OD, thickness) of the old seals.

Inline tube has them. Those are common prop valves or you could just plumb in a W ilwood universal if you want.

Not it isn’t and no they don’t. I just double checked and the ones that look at all like this are the GM type where the rear brake line comes straight out the back instead if out the bottom like is pictured.
They don't even list an 87 mercury colony park in their website options.

Buy an aftermarket adjustable proportioning valve and do a few test drives and tweak the settings

OK, I feel absolutely horrible about getting your hopes up like this, but I’ve gone through the whole damn house and can’t find the thing. The last time I know I saw it was back in the fall of 2017 when I bought it, and I’m now very concerned that I left it in the trunk with a bunch of other random parts when I sold the car last spring.
I texted the guy I sold it to to see if he has it, it would be useless to him anyway. Stay tuned, he got a 90% sorted Lincoln for peanuts, he has to owe me.

Let me know, but don’t stress about it. If you don’t have it I’ll just go with my original plan.

Its just annoying. When I saw it didn’t fit, I got pissed and threw it somewhere, but its still an OEM part in new condition.
That guy got a refurbished cruise control unit, some extra woodgrain dash parts, a NOS temp gauge, a thermostat, and a spare AM/FM cassette stereo, plus, most likely , that proportioning value. Probably should have kept some things besides the other radios.
