And if you try to tell the cop that I “backed into you” while you stand there reeking of weed, with your girlfriend in the car very obviously trying to hide things?
The irony is they had a bumper sticker that said “kill the stupid ones”. I noticed it right before they cut off a semi truck, slammed on the brakes, got behind me and made some very-much-not-quick-enough evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting my car that was stopped at a red light, as one does.
All this while they both had blunts in hand, rear windows down. Are people really stupid enough to not realize that the smell doesn’t just dissappear? Like, it was noticeable from 5 cars ahead. I’m not saying I wish that semi had hit them, but I’m also not saying that touching the stove as a child is an ineffective way to prevent it from ever happening again.
Whatever. I’ve been super irritable all day and this didn’t help. The damage is minor and the kind of thing I would completely shrug off if it was an accident with an apologetic driver. But for these assholes, that’s not going to happen. My mood is such that when the cop mentioned DUI and the guy’s eyes lit up in fear, I had to suppress a laugh. The officer seemed to have a negative personal experience with a drunk driver so I don’t think he’s going to be gentle here. Did I mention I had to follow the driver to his apartment and park directly behind them so they couldn’t get out in order to get them to not try to keep running?
Anyways...
I need sleep. And more coffee. Or maybe less coffee.
Or drivers who aren’t total idiots. Pour one out for a Miata that has one more battle scar to add to the mix. Money situation is at least pretty good now so I’m probably not going to sell her, although I haven’t taken down ads either. I’m indecisive on the whole thing, but with how fun the damn car is in the snow, and winter fast approaching..... Well. I could always sell in spring?

What do you mean less coffee?
Today I biked around a street during rush hour and I saw a 991 almost hit a Sienna; majestic.

I’m sorry about that. As long as you’re fine is what matters. What car did they have; I’m betting something with a model year that starts with 19.

You would be correct. 90's camry or corolla, in rough shape but not quite falling apart. Lots of bumper stickers. Mid to upper 2 0's for the people

I think some people don’t realize the smell of weed lingers because they spend so much time smoking it that they can’t quite smell it anymore. Kind of like the really heavy chain smokers or parents of a new baby who don’t realize that everybody else can smell them from across the room.

That seems to be the official vehicle of problematic people in the Pacific Northwest, along with pre-2005 Subaru’s, hence the somewhat judgmental question.

I relate to this far too much.
The kid who rear ended my Rebel Blue S60 at a stop sign was high as a kite and tried ditching some evidence under the tire of his wrecked Kia Optima. I hate people.

I like working in Lynnwood quite a bit, but I’m frankly amazed at the number of accidents I see daily in such a small area. 1.5 mile section of I-5 south between 405 and 220th? Every single week day for the past three weeks there has been a crash coming into work. I'm starting to think some thing's in the water

Did you see that there was a collision in the express lanes this morning, and then the vehicle caught on fire closing them down? At 9am, the travel time from Everett to Seattle was 123 minutes...

Keep the Miata for the snow. You may not yet realize how much you will miss RWD in the snow. People can say what they like but understeer is never fun even if FWD can be

This is exactly true. You can’t smell yourself. That being said these people were just stupid, smoking weed in your car makes your car smell like weed smoke

Understeer is scary. I’m no fwd pro, but I spent a bit of time getting in practice with turbo volvos. I just can’t imagine ever finding fwd as confidence inspiring as rwd, in the sense that in a rwd car I feel like I can correct any slide made at a reasonable speed.

Even in Indiana, where weed is not legal and in general we’re a fairly up tight state about such things, it seems like I’m smelling it more and more frequently just driving down the road . Really annoys me, not because I care whether people use it, but because it smells awful and I’m sick of it.

I agree, it feels like it’s up to you if you save the slide and it is more confidence inspiring. Also I’m glad you are okay, car chases are scary, definitely not cool like Bul litt

Do babies really smell that much? I have started to question why everyone else’s kids stink, while mine doesn’t unless he has a massive load in his diaper.
Mine doesn’t really cry or whine much, either. Of course, he’ll probably be the exact opposite on our 6 hours down and 6 hours back of flights...

Wow. Reasons I’m afraid to stand near the road, but just as disinterested in driving for my commute. The drivers here are awful and the situation in general is approaching the point where I just want out. It doesn’t surprise me that they ran, either.
My first accident on the road (b een hit in parking lots ) was 16 years after I got my license and it was when some idiot ran into me when I was stopped at a light about six months after moving here . As is typical with all car-related shenanigans, their insurance was Geico (literally every time). Couldn’t tell you if they were high or drunk, as I didn’t call the police (but I should have) and I didn’t know what weed smelled like until years after moving here, but it was a ridiculous way for it to happen after that many years of avoiding people hitting me.

I generally just correct understeer with some simple e-brake modulation....

I wouldn’t say this is simple or controllable. I’m sure with enough skill anything can be done but understeer is just no front wheels all of the sudden. No traction, stopping or steering until you regain traction

It is if you know your vehicle. For instance if my van starts understeering off-road or in snow, a simple lift off of throttle rotates the rear while regaining traction up front, at which my understeer turns into a smooth “drift” and around the corner I go.
FWD is a different driving experience, but once you learn how, they can be equally as fun.

While I disagree about equally fun that has to be personal preference. I’ve never had fun in FWD in the snow even when I can manage slides, but you’re right it’s all about practice and knowing your car

I find the fun in FWD the added “skill” it takes to do things that are easy in a RWD.
Don’t get me wrong, I love driving a RWD, I just also love driving FWD. AWD is about the only thing I hate driving, they are utterly boring to me.

You just gotta do ebrake turns with the Fwd cars, then it’s the same. I tested this theory with my most recent rental car on dirt roads lol. Nearly spun it once with a nice tank slapper.

It’s not the baby itself, it’s this weird smell that comes from all the smells of everything that goes along with caring for an infant mixing together and getting embedded in clothes, hair, skin, etc. The only term I know for it is “new baby smell”, but it’s really the family and the house that smell . I remember it from when I was a kid after my sister was born, I’ve noticed it more than once on new parents in the office, and because I don’t have kids or any desire to have them it stands out strongly in my nose .
