N California, they are America’s Tire. In Arizona, they were Discount Tire Co. They have me in their database, had good tire options in stock, and were really pleasant and helpful. Both times, I could not have been in a more foul mood (especially the second time which cost me a money making day on the road), but they made fixing the problem easy. Definitely recommend.

Of note, I called Discount Tire Center here first, thinking they were the same company, and they guy on the phone was dopey as hell.  They get a full non-endorsement. And fuck Les Schwab and their tread cutting scam.

Hi, yes do you remember how you just bought tires?  How would you like us to take a little of the top, to make them worse and last fewer miles?

Les Schwab has gone to shit. They gave me a brake job quote and they insisted I replace the entire calip ers, doubling the cost. It was twice as expensive as the dealer. They are also incapable of balancing a tire. I’ve taken a work car back at least 3 times for tire balan ce.

My experience with Discount Tire in Houston was poor. Long waits, adding charges to the bill, and perhaps worst of all, terrible covers of popular music in the waiting room while you waited.

My only complaint with Discount is that they put my rear tires immediately on backorder, after I ordered them.

My last visits to those two left me with similar sentiments. Discount handled everything smoothly and Les Schwab was a fucking disaster. I have to go to Schwab to have the Camaro’s alignment done since I don’t want to drive it very far like it is and Schwab is the only place close. Luckily the location near me wasn’t the the one that was a complete shit show and I’ve had good luck with that location before.

Always had great service from them, and I might consider using them now that the founder is dead. Why can’t certain rich people just be content with being rich, and not have to actively try to be assholes?

Prices only decent when on special?

I've often wondered how that happens in today’s computer age.  Only thing I could come up with is that the system doesn't actually check inventory until an order is placed, which seems pretty poorly designed.

After going to an Evans Tire, Discount Tire looks like the most well run professional organization in existence!

Most of the Discount Tires in my area are clean, well organized, well run team of people. They will also work with you on price, you can negotiate a little bit at the counter to get a better deal.

I’ll second this. The Corporation is actually “Discount Tire”... becbut ause of the aforementioned d-bags who’d been using the name previously in California, Discount Tire is a DBA “America’s Tire” in California.  Same parent company though and identical service.

The web properties are managed together, though, and the pricing is transparent. They will also (ask for a manager) price match on specific tires, as well.

The secret is to reserve the tires ONLINE before you go in and always reserve the first timeslots of the day. You’ll be in and out in under 30 minutes every time if you go in at 8 or so . If you go in mid-day, without appointment, you’re asking for a long wait.

They used to be (20 years ago) great, but I think it’s harder to hire good installers at what Les w+ ants to pay these days. I quit them a decade back . never again.

Never been to Les Schwab (and don’t plan on) but Discount Tire in AZ has slowly going downhill.

When I started going to them in the early 2000's they were good and fast and nice. Each visit after degrades the experience a little bit in some way... I’m waiting longer. More mistakes made. Prices going up. Supply nonexistent when informed were existent . Bad information being shared about their services.

After waiting 2 hours on a simple rotation I had an appointment for I kind of just called it quits. My local Firestone where I do my alig n ments do tires way better than this.

Do you suppose the act of being an asshole enables them to be even richer? I presumed it was in their self-interest, in that sort of Ayn Randian way.

Not to get into things too much, but my company definitely has problems with this. The most common issue is simply that our inventory counts are wrong, presumably because inventory has been lost, damaged, or stolen (damaged is our biggest problem but I’d imagine tires are more durable). It’s easy to imagine Jordan... ordered and then when they went to check they didn’t actually have that part. Indeed this happened to me with Discount Tire as well, tires listed as available online were not actually available at the listed location, so they had to ship some in from elsewhere.

We also have performance issues, though that might be less of a problem for smaller store inventories. In that case we sometime have to drop inventory requests if we don’t get a response in time, and just assume that we have it, especially for popular items. Obviously we could speed things up, but running a nationwide business definitely can strain hardware.

Being an asshole will definitely help you amass wealth, but being a tea partier because you supposedly are a conservative, but then donating millions to oppose cannabis legalization makes you a different kind of asshole.

Yeah, it’s like an evolved Pokemon version of a regular asshole, I agree. Obviously as we live here, we see it pretty prominently...
