Then I got to park in a casino parking lot to inspect the installation and expiry date of my child seat, (passed, still god for 4 months).
They recommended that I fasten the seat belt over the booster seat when it is not in use, not mentioning the 150 pounds of tools and automotive stuff in there with it. I did not mention that I have a Corvair with no seatbelts.
I got a colouring book, a reflective snap-bracelet, a report impaired drivers pen (I used to install the boozeblowboxes in people’s cars), Some mountie stickers, and all the safety brochures I could eat, and the bonus of being late for an appointment with a long haul trucker (not renowned for their patience, he thought it was funny). Pain in the ass, but hey, public safety and a free colouring book!
EDIT! I forgot to mention that they had Palletloads of new carseats they were giving away and installing in people’s cars.

Jeez in California my kids got junior CHP stickers and I got a warning, which was the best result of the event.

expiry date of my child seat
What. I didn’t know there was an expiry date on a child seat.
I thought it was when the child grew and how much that you changed seats.

What. I didn’t know there was an expiry date on a child seat.
I know, right? Now I have to go check to see where the expiration date on my roll of duct tape is..

I got pulled over by the Colorado State Patrol a couple of months ago. A coloring book would’ve been way better than the participation certificate they gave me for speeding. Coloring would’ve been more fun than drafting paperwork to make it go away.

Canada has expiry dates for car seats, it is nine years from date of manufacture. (on mine) so I’ve gotten all nine years use out of it. Kids don’t really eve ride in the cargo Fargo much, I keep one in there just because the rules state that sub-80 pound children need one. (yes we’re a metric country, but none of knows what we weigh in kilos and I’m 5'9".)

I know it’s an inconvenience but I personally think it’s awesome. When I drop my kid off at school I see plenty of parent that aren’t using their car seats as intended or in a couple of cases kids just hanging out in the back seat when they should be restrained.

Yeah child seats have a shelf life much like racecar seatbelts, I presume that its due to the plastic and such breaking down and what not.

Always good to get colouring books. The pamplets are a little excessive, but hey.
It’s a $170 fine for not having a kid under 7 in a booster seat , and I can’t remember what it is for not having it properly installed. I’m glad that they were giving away car seats and installing them right.

Oh, we’d replace a child seat long before then anyway.
Lol. We use pounds and stone in the U.K. while America uses pounds and your supposed to be metric.
14lbs to a 1st.
So we’d say 80lbs as 6st 8lbs (or just round it to 7st) (which is 36.25Kgs).

I didn’t know that, because here we don’t keep them as long anyway as newer models of stuff come out quite often and kids growing so fast, we bin them
I think the longest product we’d keep is the baby/child seat that grows with the child and that is only four or five years.
I’m a back advocate of the Maxi Cosi seats that allow you to turn the seat towards you to put the child in and then turn and locks int o place, or place the baby into the seat in the house and then it clips into the seat frame in the car.
Cleaning cars, I’ve come across too many car seats that are a maze to navigate to install and remove. Isofix systems are amazing. Set the seat protector down. Click in the two isofix arms in the base of the car seat to the tabs of the car’s seat , extend the leg and lock it, lift the tethering strap over and hoo k it to the tab on the rear of the seat, pull tight and lock it.

Does the U.K. Still officially use miles per hour? I use it as kind of an affectation of speech, its just also I live in Saskatchewan, which is divided by a grid of roads every mile.

I do NOT miss dealing with infant seats, we’re down to a single booster (in each of 3 vehicles)

Our youngest is 9, but still a bit light. The local constabulary hasn’t caught the BMX drive by guy, but they’d notice a guy like me with a 79 pound kid with no booster.

We use lbs culturally, kg legally. We use feet for height, meters for distance.

In the U.K we use miles per hour and miles per (UK) gallon, road signs are in miles.
While road and motorway signs are in imperial, Motorway Driver Location Posts are in metric (for use if someone breaks down, the driver can call a breakdown service and they’ll know exactly where they are on the motorway.
In the case below, the top line says what road your on, the second line stats the direction your heading and the third line tells you how far you are from a given location.
Most bridge signs are both UKimperial and metric.
It works for us many older people are fluent in imperial while younger people are fluent in metric and some of us float between the two depending who we are talking to.

I don’t touch a child seat unless I have to or know exactly how it goes in and comes out. I always ask if it’s okay to remove the child seat for a through cleaning and always state if I’ve taken a seat out for them to check it before they leave.

I just looked at my licence, 178 cm. It used to say 5'10". I got it in 1994 when I was 5'7"

Lol. We use all of the above.
While road and motorway signs are in imperial, Motorway Driver Location Posts are in metric (for use if someone breaks down, the driver can call a breakdown service and they’ll know exactly where they are on the motorway.
So those signs are in metres.
We don’t use meters for distance, meters are better for measuring gases, fluids, etc... Lol.

I gained my sense of inches and feet working at a sheetmetal factory when I was young, duct and heating supply is all in inches here, as is most construction/carpentry. My sister once phoned me from the highway, to let me know my M alibu was running out of snot at 95. I told her that it was in miles and really only goes 92, so good job but slow down.

I just have to let the Trump thing play out, I’m in an office pool with Odin, Satan, Jesus, The Buddha and Xenu, and I have to play fair. If this is about the Toronto Maple Leafs, I’m still punishing them, they know what they did.

in my city of 200,000 the cops have shot 13 or 14 people in 115 years. (I know one of them and he deserved it, he even admits he deserved it) No one likes them, but they don’t execute people.

Unfortunately, its coming. People here have started shooting each other, it’s just a matter of time before the law gets in on the shootsing. We’re traditionally a stabbing community, which is more personal and requires more commitment. Any gun play used to be between consenting adults, now its randos taking potshots. (and bicycle drive-by shootsings)

Fair enough, was informed when someone hit (and total ed) the Mrs. car and their insurance company bought us new car seats and I had to send them pictures of the serial numbers and expiration dates as part of the claim.
As for current seats my kids are front facing so the huge infant seats are a thing of the past. Right now we have a mix of Recaro and Britax seats in our cars, all of them “grow with the child” so I shouldn’t have to buy any more new seats.
