Waiting for the lucky demographic to make this a thing, will work well with jorts, white tennis shoes, and tucked-in t-shirts.

That somehow doesn't look as terrible as it should.

I agree.
I honestly think there’s some artistic room to massage this concept and make it actually look really good.

I get it...I was just making fun of rabid fanaticism over retro stuff. My FIL had a 2004 T-Bird. Those people are crazy.

I think it could pull off the two-tone look, if it weren’t so strict to C1 design elements.
Pinstripe the top edge of the accent color along the body character line , and flow it all the way into the side duct, letting the duct edge trim be the color break.
Convert the wheels to aero-turbines like Rotiform CCV with a redline tire. (there are ways to give tires a groove and a red dyed/painted line, IIRC )

Story time: My FIL had just passed away and the car was long gone, but he still had some accessories on hand. One of them was a white hardtop, which retails for $4k; used/good versions were $1,000-$1,500. We got a buyer for ours for $900 for a quick sale. The buyer was in KC and he had a local friend who was on a roadtrip to FL. He had the guy “swing by” our place in AL (a couple hours off his planned route), load up the top on his super-overloaded roatripping T-bird, and basically ferry the thing halfway back across the country.
We JUST BARELY got the top installed, since the hardtop intrudes on the cabin space a lot more than the soft top. And that guy and his wife had every cubic inch of the car packed with stuff. To say they were both irritated is an understatement.
I wouldn’t have wanted to be on that trip home. Also, I don’t have any friends that good.

I do not have friends anywhere near that good to do that for me. It’s always interesting to see how much the OEM hardtops command. The Miata for example, the NA hardtop used costs as much as an NA miata.
Not sure how long ago it was, but sorry to hear he passed! Sounds like it was an experience with the estate

It’s been about 10 years and was a long battle with latent mental illness before that. An absolute nightmare.
But back on the car topic, among the things we had to liquidate was a good condition cream colored ‘65 Mercedes SL230 Pagoda. I-6, mechanical fuel injection, 4MT, with original hardtop. We had to let it go for $10k but it was worth probably $15k...we just didn’t have the time to keep marketing it.
I knew we had basically given it away when a guy from Memphis sent a buddy with a flatbed to me at 8pm on a weeknight to get it. That level of motivation tells you he’s worried you’re going to figure it out and renege on the deal. But OTOH, cash in hand...
He had promised to give it to the wife and me when the time came. He had owned it since ‘82 or ‘83, it was a treat for himself after he got out of med school.

That is a pretty cool treat! Any reason you all couldn’t hold on to it (if that’s not too personal)

We could have, at least in hindsight. But we were terrified that creditors were going to come after everything (due to his 27 secret credit cards) so my MIL wanted to sell whatever she could to minimize the damage.
To be fair (and ethical) those credit cards were unsecured debt. However, when someone dies and those valuables are not part of a will, they can get seized in probate to settle debts.

You nailed it!
Lately Ive been loving that wheel style. In fact tonight Im picking up a set of Icarus (its an OEM wheel) for the Volvo. They remind me of the OZ slot style rally wheels.
