Hate to see one of those go down with the loss of life.

So sad. I had a chance to ride in one for just $50 back in the late 80s, but my mom was like “Oh hell no, those things were built to fall apart after 2-3 years.”
She wasn’t exactly wrong. There’s a lot to go wrong with something so far past the end of its original useful life.

I’d wait to see the NTSB report before making any assumptions.

No assumptions here...but the age of warbirds never works in their favor. That doesn’t mean they can’t fly for a really long time with the right care.
On the plus side, they were build to take a lot of abuse during their lifespans
. Especially the B-17.

13 on board according to Avweb. I’d hope that they all make it but it sounds like that may not be the case. So sad.

I’m sad for the families who lost loved ones and for all of the people who put in so much effort restoring and maintaining a piece of flying history. I have no tolerance for buttheads who take the opportunity to grandstand during a tragedy.
U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) also released a statement:
“Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the victims. They and the public deserve to know the facts and causes of this tragic crash. I am calling for an immediate National Transportation Safety Board investigation so we can get to the bottom of what happened and prevent future tragedies. The NTSB should be on the scene as soon as possible, with assistance from other agencies like the FAA.”
Sorry, buddy, there’s no need for you to call for anything. They already know how to do their jobs. Take your grandstanding somewhere else, please.

Seriously. The NTSB will investigate an accident without a senator ‘calling for an investigation’.
