What could possibly go wrong?

Flight Forward is the first company to claim the Part 135 Standard certification, and it’ll be able to operate an unlimited number of drones. The machines and their payloads can weigh more than 55 pounds and UPS can fly its drones at night.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Who wants to put money on how long it will take for one of these drones with its 55-pound payload crashing on top of somebody’s head or coming down on an interstate and causing a massive pileup?

In a city it may be stupid. In rural areas it makes a ton of sense. Especially when you consider this area gets over 200" of snow and not everyone does a very good job of keeping their sometimes very long driveways cleaned out. Then there is springtime when the ground is thawing and those long driveways can become impassable due to mud. This lets the UPS driver park on the road and get the packages delivered without the risk of getting stuck.

I would imagine they need to be abl e to launch and recover multiple (while driving optimally ) in order to make this worth the time and expense.

Skynet would last about 45 minutes until Anonymous managed to hack it. That or it BSODs.

Will be interesting to see how well these work. The real benefit will be when you have self-driving vans, which otherwise would have no way to deliver packages. With or without a driver, I can imagine the van serving as an aircraft carrier, releasing drone when in range and recovering them when they return.

I ordered ski poles one December and the UPS driver wouldn’t go down my relatively short 300 foot driveway even tho it was plowed. He also delivers to my office so I told him I though my package was on his truck and got it at the office.
