Anyone else like to get around restrictions?

It drives me crazy when a website prevents me from easily downloading an image from their site. It’s not like I’m going to be using this stuff for commercial use; sometimes I just like to save things for use as wallpaper. It always feels like victory when I find the source directory and grab what I want when I want it. I shall not be thwarted...

Yep, easy enough to use developer tools to get at what you want.

I don’t like digging in folders though, I prefer to use the “Network” v iew in Chrome’s tools and then filter images (you need to reload the page to have things show up).

I just open the image and use the snipping tool to steal it. I don't need high res for Oppo shitposting.

I LOVE getting around restrictions. In Chrome, finding the source image is just a right-click and inspect away.

My favorite is sourcing GIS data off of web-map sites for use in offline maps.

Many online map configurations still leave the data query functions open, so it’s easy to set up a script to pull down the data you need in chunks.

Yeah, every once in a while I’ll use my browser’s “inspect” tool to extract an image. It helps me give Kinja a thumbnail that it can actually use, like in this recent post that featured an Instagram video. I was able to pull the exact image that Insta uses for its own thumbnail.

Oh, and Twitter too. I don’t know why, but some Twitter images are immediately downloadable, while others I can only save through the inspect tool or some third-party downloader service. Really annoying. I hate Instagram the most though. They don’t even put progress bars or timers on their vids...
