Got these guys installed today.

Kinja'd!!!

Us ed a mobile installer recommend by tire rack, and it worked surprisingly great. Didn’t even have to move the car into the driveway, they said they’d do it with the truck on the curb. Took about an hour and a half, and that was it. Cheaper than any local brick and mortar.

Also, made gluten free burger buns. We’ll see if they’re any good.

“We’ll see if they’re any good.”

to say nothing of your baking ability - there is no such thing as good gluten free bread.  Sorry.

Huh, mobile tire installer. I can’t say that I’ve ever heard of such a thing, but it makes a lot of sense. Not overhead for renting a shop with lifts, just a truck you park anywhere, unless they sell tires, too, but warehouse space isn’t too bad to rent. Makes a lot of sense for a metro area where rent is high.

Please share the recipe if the buns are any good.  Celiac household here.  Always looking for good baked things.

There is. It’s not easy, and it’s complicated as hell. Doesn’t keep too long either. But it’s doable. Bagels are my next thing to manage. I need to boil more, and bake hotter i  think.

They work in conjunction with tire rack, so they don't even need an auxiliary warehouse. Just a Mercedes van with a balancer in back, a jack, and a battery powered impact driver.

I had never heard of them for anything but commercial vehicles or farm equipment. At my last job we had a blowout on a snowplow tire and even with an emergency call out charge his prices were competitive with shop rates.

Thanks, they were much better this time then the first time I tried. Increased rest ti me in the fridge from 12hrs to 3 days, and they were nice and soft

It was, this time. More rest time in the fridge.

We too, are a celiac household (my daughter), as well as Crohn’s (myself). That book I’ve found to be the best. Author went through and tried different proteins to replace gluten, and settled on whey. It can be a little complicated and time consuming, but worth it. Recipes typically require at least 12hr rest, and upwards of 3 to 5 days, but benefit from the extra time. But overall made biscuits, hamburger buns, bagels, bread, and it all works out pretty well. These buns were far superior to Udi’s.

Let me know what works for you. We got our diagnosis last July, so this is all fairly new to us. But I'll be damned if she grows up without this stuff.

Wow, commercial and farm equipment seems even less likely to me. I’d think it required more specialized equipment for either of those, given that those usually have multi-piece wheels that are kind of explodey.

His focus on self-deprecation for his subject matter (as opposed to making targets out of everyone around him) was refreshing, and he just exuded a boundless energy . I know it’s unlikely, but I hope he had a good support system of friends and family such that he didn’t struggle with self-loathing or depression as many in the comedy profession secretly may.

LOL yeah I tried it once. Got real close to the point where I was going to end up damaging the wheel, so I had to stop.

Most of the companies you see doing repairs on the side of the highway on semis are equipped to do tire mounting as well.

Especially with farm equipment there’s basically no good way to get some wheels to a shop. Having someone that’s properly equipped to deal with them come to you is indispensable.

Kinja'd!!!

That’s an extreme example, but that’s an actual tire size for a piece of farm equipment. They use the same tread width/ratio-rim diameter as a car. So that’s an over six and a half foot tall tire. You’re not tossing that in the bed of the truck and running it down to Pep Boys.

And now I want to build a John Deere themed donk riding on ag tires with 54” rims. Thankfully I’m too poor to make my terrible idea a reality.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone working on a semi on the side of the highway, wheel or otherwise. I try to look at the road

Ag-Donk would be sweet

Thanks! Our daughter has Celiac and my dad did. I’ve gotten pretty used to it and have a lot of good recipes, but I haven’t tried bread. Baking up here at 7300 ft has been a challenge so I’ve been keeping to cookies and cakes. A recent favorite is s’mores brownies made with Pamela’s gluten free graham crackers and brownie mix. The kids love them but it’s like $15 of ingredients. I do cookies from scratch - I’m still trying to figure out the best premade  GF flour mix. My mom blends her own from rice, almond, tapioca and xanthan gum, but I’m too lazy to do that.

We use Bob’s red Mill 1:1 for most stuff, and Pamela’s for a few specific recipe s where it works better. A lot of the Pamela’s stuff is good, but yeah, it’s all pricey. That’s part of why I started baking like this. Time consuming, but cheaper than Udi’s, and way better.

2nd bobs 1:1. It’s what I make all my cookies with. I recently grabbed a bag  of Walmart Great Value 1:1 but I haven’t opened it yet.  I suspect it won’t be great but if it’s drowned in butter and sugar it may be OK enough for like half the price of bobs.

I saw an interview with him where he had slimmed down dramatically. I like to think that’s because he was taking care of himself in anticipation of a long life. But he did have health problems. I try to imagine that his stories about his family weren’t all made up and that he did have family that spent time with him.
