This is a plug, right?

I paid $20 for a patch, and I think this is a plug. I put the purple paint on because I actually dug the screw out. E DIT: I wasn’t aware of the plug/patch combo, that’ll do.

Aren’t they basically the same thing?

That's the plug you see and the patch is inside the tire.

A patch is on the inside of the tire and would have a plug connected too it. It’s hard to tell but

Kinja'd!!!

It's definitely possible it's one of these, I've personally used these and swear by them, you use adhesive and pull them through from the inside and clip the plug at the end

They are different, where as the plug penetrates the tire and has a chance of failing, the patch sealed the hole from the inside less likely to fail, centrifugal forces and all.

At least from my point of view.

I could have plugged it with an auto parts kit. Since these tires are newer I wanted a patch.

If you take the tire off you should see the patch portion of it.

That 100% looks to be a patch plug combo piece.

Normally plugs look like slim jims or something nasty.

This.

Or they used both a plug from the outside and a patch on the inside.

Either way, what’s the issue with a properly installed plug?

Ok. This is what I was hoping for, but I didn’t watch them do it. Worth $20 then.

I would patch it myself if I could take the tire off, and I’ve done enough plugging with the hardware store kits.

If it’s a combo that’s even better.

America's Tire/Discount Tire does it for free, just fyi. But I know not everyone has one close.

On a year old tire I’d rather a patch on the inside. I wasn’t aware of these combo things, I’m satisfied now that should be what it is.

I’ve put a few plugs in......

Even if I didn’t buy the tire there? I’ll keep it in mind and look it up. Makes sense that a $2 part could net a $600 tire set purchase later down the road.....

PUN!

Looks ok to me, most patches look l ike a nipple with a patch that adheres to the inside  and plug that pokes out the hole.

Kinja'd!!!

Here’s what you got. It keeps the steel belts in the tire from corroding and coming apart. Bad Plugs can lead to broken belts and finally this ....

Yup. I’ve taken tires in twice and they patched them for me at no charge although I offered to pay.

Good business I suppose, I wrote them a good review and took my car in them to swap my snow tires on for the season.

Yeah, completely free. And they're not shady and try to sell you a tire you don't need. There's very clear guidelines about whether a tire can be repaired or not.

I had a similar plug/patch fix on one of the tires my car came with. They were old Firehawk GT Pursuits. Expensive police tires. This spring, I'm buying Michelin tires and new rims.
